Vinceanity has given me ample opportunity to wax poetic and at the same time blast the last ownership of the Expos.

1) someone mentioned that this is one of the franchise's best starts. Well as of tonight with a record of 30-17 this is the Expos best record in TEAM HISTORY!

2) The whole attendence issue, you know Montrealers back a winner and if the 'Spos are still in the hunt in July and August the fans will come out. If the 'Spos make the playoffs and they put games in PR the people that DO care for baseball will cry foul at MLB's practices. Remember this is the same fanbase that got robbed of a world series opportunity in '94.

3) The Expos' lack of media exposure is largely the fault of former owner and current Marlins owner Jeffrey Lauria. He was the one that had the Expos go a whole season without a TV or radio deal one year. In fact the voice of the Expos, Dave Van Horne had to do games over the internet! A year later he left to do Marlins games.

4) The Expos could've been saved when Lauria owned the team as there was a deal in principle to build a stadium. The QC gov't even pledged money to build the stadium yet Lauria pulled the plug on the plan. The Expos also owned some land that could've been used to build a new stadium, again Lauria pulled the plug. This obviously has played with the psyche of the Montreal fan.

As for baseball in DC the best situation for them would be to play a few yrs in creaky old RFK stadium while a new ballpark is being built. If you want to blame MLB for not having the 'Spos in DC right now then blame Orioles owner Peter Angelos as he claims teritorial rights over the DC/Maryland area and won't give it up unless he's paid a huge sum of money.

The Fat Toad Lauria is what hurt the Expos. That Fat Toad is the one that didn't sign the TV contracts, He is the one that didn't sign the Radio Contracts he is the one that turned down everything.

The only damn thing Lauria did was propose a new stadium to the Canadian government which they deny.

Without the Expos half the MLB would be without good/great talent.

All the Expos had to do was get "Jerry Park" cleaned and fixed up and they can go back home and play where they wouldn't have to sell out the BIG O which holds 50 thousand. In a 50 Thousand seat stadium when you get 12,000 fans its going to look empty cause it is so huge.


Banchard(sp?) started this he blackballed the Expos from getting anything together and when Lauria came he tried to fix but the Government said no so Lauria said FU to them and walked and then everything that they ever wanted and needed to get something done couldn't cause of all the mess they were put in and Lauria made the matter worse.

Bud Selig doesn't know how to run baseball. There are other teams that deserve to be cut or moved then the 'Spos. That's for sure.

TheTruth there was a deal in place with Lucien Bouchard's PQ gov't. It was revealed a year ago or so. There was also the whole going to the Feds thing that you mention but as you said that was a crock.

Also I think you're talking of Claude Brochu before Laurier. He wrote a book last summer about his years with the Expos. Unfortunately it's a french publication and I can't read french.

Yeah that is the guy I meant Claude Brochu well that is the guy that Blackballed the Spos from ever getting anything and Lauria just made it worse for them.

looks like we expos fans will feel even worse after this season because in recent times, a strike and the team moving to another city will be the reason why we have only been able to witness them giong to the playoffs only once.

did you guys see baseball tonight last night? reynolds was really shi**ing on the 'spos saying there was no chance they could keep this up. (due to the horrible schedule u guys will start playing) Personally, as a braves fan, i think you guys are gonna be there the whole way through...im getting '94 flashbacks of when the braves started off fast but the spos kept in stride and eventually blew past them.

all in all i just think its highly ******** to underestimate you guys.
but hopefully the braves will win it all this year

I live in DC but I went to college in montreal.. I would love for the Expos to move to DC.. Peter Angelos should be pimpslapped for his baltimore-dc argument.. I have never been to an O's game and i've lived here for 21 years... how can the national pastime not have a team in the nation's capital.. a joke.. i'll go watch the expos live in june, hopefully they'll remain hot during that time..
