In the Millwood thing. I really don't care if he's lucky or not. He's getting the job done, and that's all I care about.

DiMaggio probably isn't the 20th best OF all time, let alone an all time great as people make him out to be.

Absolutely. If I were a Rangers fan I'd be the same way. Take em any way you can get them.

As far as tonight's performance, that's what I call regression towards the mean.

Name me 20 better outfielders in history. Seriously, name 'em.

Twenty was an exaggeration, of course. But I probably could name at least 10 right off the top of my head.

Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Ruth, Musial, Junior, Ted Williams, Frank Robinson, Mel Ott, Cobb, Bonds

That's 11 so far. Certainly not worthy of being called the greatest living ball player like he was before he died. There were Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Musial, Williams & Robinson all deserved that title before DiMaggio did.

You're crazy if you really think that. I hate the Yanks as much as the next guy but DiMaggio was certainly one of the greats of all time. Hell, the man has a hitting streak record that may never be duplicated let alone be broken.

I don't know how he was defensively but the man was the heart and soul of those Yankees teams. So even if his numbers weren't great to you (but boy they look damn good to me) he should get consideration for being a leader and the focal point of the organization at that time.

Now if you want to point at a Yankees outfielder who may be a bit overrated (but not by too much) I would point my finger at Mickey Mantle but other factors come into play and it's more of a "what if he wasn't a drunkard and hopped up on painkillers etc etc?".

DiMaggio didn't deserve the moniker as the greatest living ballplayer. Period.

Hm, I believe the person that got that moniker was Ted Williams even before DiMaggio died more people spoke up about the Splendid Splinter. Maybe in the Tri-State area and in some media circles DiMaggio got that claim. I know for a fact that he did get that kind of pub during his playing career but retroactively people started giving Williams more credit as "best living ballplayer".

Nah, I remember them going "Williams takes over now as the greatest" after DiMaggio died. Maybe some debated the topic, but just about everyone kept saying it was Joe. & like I said, he wasn't even the greatest @ his position. He wouldn't even make 3rd team on my alltime greatest OF.

Granted its only one game, but its funny how the baseball world has a way of balancing itself out over time.

                              Pedroia out, Pena in

Wow, I can't believe Kinsler didn't get in with Pedroia dropping out. I mean, I don't think Kinsler's having a great season, but he undoubtedly deserves to be the number two second baseman with Pedroia not going. He's having a better year than Pena.

Just like in the NL, where Werth was picked as an injury replacement over the more deserving Kemp, we get a manager taking his own guy once again in what I think is clear favoritism.

Granted, I think it was a bigger injustice in the NL, because Pena at least was a Final Vote candidate as well as Kinsler.
