CLEVELAND (AP)—Eric Wedge’s job is safe for the rest of the season.

Cleveland general manager Mark Shapiro said Sunday that the manager and his coaching staff would remain in their jobs with the last-place Indians.

“As I’ve said all along, the responsibility for the disappointments of this season don’t rest on one person,” Shapiro said. “The responsibility is spread equally throughout the players, the front office, Eric and his staff.

“I thought it was important for the second half to remove a potential distraction that exists from that speculation.”

The Indians, expected to contend in the AL Central Division, are 33-49, the worst record in the league.

Wedge, in his seventh season as Indians manager, is signed through 2010. The Indians are 529-525 under Wedge. They won the Central in 2007 and came within a game of reaching the World Series and Wedge won AL Manager of the Year.

I saw that and was like

"it's like they're giving up on the season. I feel bad for Indians fans."

Maybe Shapiro will get the axe at the end of the year as well because any sane person can see that Wedge needs to go.

I don't think it's Wedge's fault. Shapiro put the team together, he's even said as much. Just too many injuries, and no bullpen IMO.

Yep obviously it isn't Wedge's fault but then the last couple years we've seen mental lapses on the field by this Cleveland team. It's not all Wedge's fault but the man needs to be fired. At least that might actually light a spark for this team.

Shapiro needs to go to IMO.

That's it, I've finally lost it.

How in the blue hell did this team come from the verge of a World Championship to the ****ing bull **** I see on the field everyday? How does a team who had 2 Cy Young winners and a Cy Young contender over the past 3 years now have the worst pitching staff in baseball?

You want to know how? Well it's quite simple really...

Mark Shapiro and Eric Wedge. These two numbnuts have been the Laverne and Shirley of the Indians. They have a love affair that makes their wives cringe when they have to spend time together. I cannot imagine a more unholy union in any sport than these two idiots running a major league baseball operation.

Let's start with you, Marcus Laverne Shapiro. Everyone has been completely fooled by him and his supposed great team building farm system. He has been great in acquiring good, young talent in trades *Choo, Droobs, Sizemore, Valbuena, Lee and the like*. But this moron couldn't get a draft right if he had someone to see the future. You want to see how bad this man has been drafting in the first round over the past few years? Well, bottoms up to this massive pile of ****:

                  2001

                  1 17 Dan Denham P
                  1 27 Alan Horne P
                  1 35 J.D. Martin P
                  1 43 Mike Conroy

                  2002

                  1 22 Jeremy Guthrie P
                  1 33 Matt Whitney 3B
                  1 41 Micah Schilling 2B

                  2003

                  1 11 Michael Aubrey 1B
                  1 18 Brad Snyder OF
                  1 31 Adam Miller P

                  2004

                  1 6 Jeremy Sowers P

                  2005

                  1 14 Trevor Crowe
                  1 33 John Drennen

The jury is still out on David Huff, Beau Mills, Lonnie Chisenhall and Alex White, but suffice to say, he has drafted nothing but garbage since he has been general manager of the Cleveland Indians. Usually, that wouldn't be such a bad thing, but since we cannot sign anyone and we keep trading away key players, then it becomes a huge problem.

But what about Eric Shirley Wedge, you say? Well let me tell you about Eric Wedge, he's just as big of a moron than Marcus. This idiot generally pulls his lineup out of a hat every day, it would seem. Honest to God, this man has been putting Peralta in the middle of the lineup it seems almost every game this season. Peralta has rewarded him with a subpar performance so far, but this moron express stops for no one.

No, because this man has the idiocy to put Ryan Garko in the OF, to play Shoppach like he was tearing the cover off the ball, constantly ignores that Kerry Wood is in the bullpen lacking consistent work, and is so uptight that the dude literally is twitching in the dugout. Not only that, but when Matt Laporta was brought up to see regular time, these two knuckleheads thought it was a great idea to play Ben Fransisco over a top prospect. Why? THE HELL IF I KNOW!

The incompetance doesn't end there, but damn it, I needed to get this off my chest. The two have taken the Indians as far as they can go, and yet they still remain in their job. Eric Wedge has made the playoffs once in 7 years, Shapiro twice in 8 years, but yet we still keep grinding because that is, what we are told, how you come out as a winner in the end.

Keep Grinding...Jesus H Christ, keep grinding

Although Guthrie hasn't been a complete failure, your point still stands in that he had no success with the Indians whatsoever.

I don't think the Indians are giving up on the season i think they already gave up on the season a while ago.

The Shapiro/Wedge duo has been mostly a failure and a far cry from the Hart/Hargrove duo that brought the Indians back in the 1990's.

The worst part about being an Indians fan is knowing you can't get too attached to a player. Happened with Thome, Ramirez, and Sabathia. Could happen to Sizemore next.

At least with Thome and Ramirez you got 7 great years, 5 division titles, and 2 World Series appearences.

To be fair with CC, we got, I believe 3 playoff appearances and 2 division titles.

On the other hand, Throw me the money and his fake loyalty was the worst one because he was offered a great contract but decided to take more money. The worst thing Throw Me the money said was the whole "You'll have to tear the jersey off my back" comment. Manny, everyone knew he was all about the money.

Regardless, we've went from dominating the Central to being completely garbage...with one year of success in between several years of awful baseball.
