    Re: Your Opinion on Questec

    Idea? - GOOD!
    Execution of idea? -BAD!

I agree with slugox here. Umpires need to be evaluated. Unforunately, there are too many bugs for this tool to be used effectively. If MLB insists on using it, use it as a tool, not a judge.

I watch many Royals games, and umps always squeeze the Royal rookie pitchers. It's almost sick to watch. Schilling is whining about it because he got the calls that Questec thinks are balls and now he's getting squeezed.

There needs to be some uniformity, not exactness. Questec should have been started in the minors to train the umps on how to call balls and strikes.

i don't understand the umpires supposedly saying they call a game differently if they know Questec is present. Does this mean without Questec they call pitches they think are balls, strikes?. As an umpire you should know the strike zone, and call accordingly. A tool to help detemine if what you think is the strike zone and what MLB wants the strike zone to be,
match. Should not be viewed as a threat.

I think they mean that they call what they think Questec will call, because if they don't get more than 80% or 90% of the calls right they will be fired. At least that's what I heard, but I also haven't heard of any umps being fired either, so who knows.
