My long journey to find console baseball happiness....

First of all, I've alway been an ASB man. Not so much because I feel it is the best baseball game around--but simply because I have felt it has been the best game for me, personally. These feelings go back to ASB02. I played all of this year's releases (except IP) and even own HH2004.

After much tweaking and consultation with other ASB players on the boards back in April and early May, I finally had the game setup to where I really enjoyed what I saw each time I fired up the PS2. I make a conscientious effort to never sim a game and play all 162 and have done so for the past three years. (I have summers off)

    Then it happened....

After playing and saving after Game #78 of my Reds Season, I turned the PS2 off. The next day, I go to fire it up again only to find that my saved franchise file has miraculously disappeared? I have no explanation for this at all. From the time it was last saved, no one was within 20 feet of the console.

I know many of you have stories that are even worse than this--cases where you were even farther along in a frnachise than I was. I feel your pain.
Baseball gaming is such a big part of my summer.

After some tears, and consoling from my wife, I decided to try to pick up the pieces....but the pieces were far too numerous to attempt to pick up. I prided myself on having excellent rosters for this game. Thanks to all the hard work pfunk spent in researching a great rating system for CAPs, I felt I had a top notch set of 100% rosters right down to many LM'ers.

I felt that there was just too much work to do to recreate these. I have a sharkport, but to my knowledge there is no sharkport file of rosters as accurate as what I once had. Perhaps, there are season saves, but no roster saves. ASB's roster update is horrible as we all know.

Alas, I decided to regroup and dust off my HH2004 copy. I knew of roster geek's excellent roster update. SO I DL'ed it....spent about 20 minutes making some minor adjustments and was amazed. These rosters are absolutely incredible right down to A level for most teams.

Anyway, to make a long story short.......sorry too late........I have rediscovered my summer past-time by now embarking on a season with HH. I have finally discovered a game that will truly do what I want and this is to allow me to take GM control of any team(s) at any time to make trades that mirror the real league BUT at the same time, deal with my own injuries.

However, I have not abandoned ASB04. The Franshise mode of this game is just too good. Couple that with the Exapnsion feature, I feel that I have truly discovered the best of both worlds now. I use HH for my single seasion Reds league and ASB for my Indiana Tornados Expansion Franchise.

Console baseball gaming is such a wonderful thing when there are options.

    Congratulations BUTLER BULL DOGS!

HH2004 is a fun game. I just started playing that game after a month of WSB. Enjoy it!

I am sure the Geek Rosters stuff is good, but I sure wish he would get off his duff and do some XBOX rosters. We have the update from 3D0 for them to use as a template, so I dont think alot of work would have to be done. Plus there is a market for them and I for one would pay 10 bucks or so for VERY accurate rosters. I have never seen such a quality game (HH 2004 XBOX) get so little attention from the gaming community.

Have you downloaded the Live Rosters? What are they missing...what haven't they done besides the fake names that require a MLBPA license?

Oh yeah, I definately downloaded the Live rosters, but they arent very good at all. Is it an improvement? Yes, but in some ways they took a step back. For instance, they have Alfonseca as a FREE AGENT!!!!!!! He was a Cub before the season even started, why did they make him a free agent. There are some other players that have the same thing happened to them. To me, it looks like the update was sloppily done and rushed, in either event it could have been done MUCH better. THIS is why a professionally done roster set would be such a hit. If I had alot more free time and didnt work 50 hour weeks, I would take the challenge myself. Just kinda puzzles me why HH 2004 (XBOX) gets no love or attention in here or in the mod community. Why on Earth the vastly inferior (and buggy) PS2 version gets the attention the XBOX should get, is beyond me.

I hear you. But in all fairness, I've heard that the XBOX version is as buggy as PS2. I can't really say because I've only had the game for less than a week. I haven't experienced the bugs that all XBOX'ers are talking about.
With respect to the rosters.....I think the reason why they have so many players (this is true for the factory rosters as well) on the FA list that belong to teams is that they didn't allow enough room on the rosters for each team. Forget budget - they just don't have enough space for all the players.
