No bash, but I simply can't believe so many people don't know about such simple stuff in baseball .. esp on a baseball board.

Re: what is a double switch
A double switch is when you bring in a new pitcher along with a new position player and swap their positions in the batting order.
Example: Your first baseman, who hits 7th, made the last out in the previous inning. You want to bring in a new pitcher, but normally, you'd have to pinch hit for him next time you bat because the 9th spot is due up. So you do a double switch. You bring in a new first baseman, put him in the 9 spot, and bring in a new pitcher, putting him in the 7th spot.
Does that make sense?“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

And it's best used late in games, to prevent the pitcher from having to hit.Comment

Re: what is a double switch
Not neccesarily late in games, but if you dont want to waste pitchers. Say it's the 7th inning and a pitcher gets two outs then he starts giving up hits and walks. You'll take him out, but a double switch might work here if the pitcher spot is due up soon so you dont waste a pitcher getting one out and then taking him out. Now you dont have to use a pinch hitter for him and he can pitch the next inning as well.
It's not just so the pitcher doesnt have to hit because if that was the case theyd just pinch hit for him.Comment
