It all started by Pujols just being on a tear. He went into the All-Star Break with 47 HR and a .408 Avg, 120 RBI. At first I was thinking..."He'll break Bonds' record no problem". Pujols then went into one of the longest slumps I have seen. His hits stayed decent, but over the next month, Pujols batted a very human .267 with only like 5 HR. His RBI pace continued though.
Going into the second week of September (15 games left), Pujols was batting .376, 59 HR, 177 RBI. He then proceeded to do something I didn't think was humanly possible. It started with a 2-HR game vs Boston. Pujols then proceeded to hit at least 1 HR in his next 10 games, giving him 12 HR over his last 10 games, and knocking in 36 runs! This put his Avg at .384, 72 HR, 213 RBI!
2 games left to go in the season:
Next to last game, Pujols decideds to blast a 2-run HR in his first AB. .385, 73 HR, 215 RBI
He then strikes out, and gets an RBI double in his next two AB. Final AB, he jacks a low and away slider for HR #74! The record-breaking HR was also the 200th of his career.
In the last game, he hit a 2-run HR also...
Pujols' final stats:
.388, 75 HR, 219 RBI, 83 2B, 270 hits, .848 SLG
