No one will be saying that by 2005 when this team will be contending....The amount of young arms they got and the Nady and Burroughs will make them a Dangerous team by 2005

Vince, that works in theory (heck, I do believe the Padres have ALOT of talent in their minor leagues), but their ownership will have to start spending money to keep that talent when it hits the majors. Now, don't get me wrong... they won't have to spend as much as the Yanks, Mets, Phils, or Dodgers.... but they will have to sign these young guys to some decent contracts. Im not sure if their ownership will be willing to do this. Heres hoping they do though... I miss the old days (if you can call the late 80's old days hehe) when almost every team was competitive. Alex Rodriguez ruined baseball (well, I guess I should put that blame on Texas since they offered him the money... can't blame a guy for taking something thats offered) but it seems to be stabilizing now. Owners are "coming back to their senses" when it comes to spending. When Alex signed that deal, I was one of the first to say that Texas would never be good by spending that amount on one player... everyone said I was crazy. I feel somewhat vindicated now (although still sad for where that has put baseball at the moment). These guys are athletes and deserve to get paid. However, NO players should make as much as an entire 25 man roster. Especially not in baseball. One player can dominate in basketball and sometimes football (if its the quarterback or running back) enough to make a large salary make sense. But no one person is so good in baseball that he can dominate and make up for not having money to put quality players at the other positions. Ok... done preaching.....

Although I've always been a huge A-Rod fan (since I learned about major league baseball), I agree 100% with what you just said. No matter how good you are, no one player can win or lose a game in baseball..
