This is a great move. He will have no pressure, because he does not have to be the ACE. He will face teams weaker pitchers. I like this move!

He didn't have to be the "ACE" in Boston either and he was terrible since the All Star break. 6-3, 4.71 ERA before the break, 1-5, 7.82 ERA since the break.

You are right though he will likely be matched up against the bottem of the rotation on most starts. Add the familiarity of the NL west, or the NL in general and he might have a decent go with the Giants.

Not to mention get some chances at payback against the Dodgers considering the way he left that team.

Sure, but was he the 5th started, because that is what he will be here?

I would love to get revenge on the Penny after he cried and got shut down by Larry Bowa

It'll be much easier facing the the NL West than the AL East. I still don't think it's that big of a move though. Instead of this, why not call up Bumgarner?

But seriously, its just gunna put pressure on the BP. Penny is a 5-6 inning guy. Just hope that if he starts to go south, the Giants realize it quickly and cut their ties soon.

Penny will probably do fine since he'll be back in the NL. Then again, maybe he doesn't have anything. Guess we'll see.

Re: RHP Brad Penny headed to Giants' rotation

This move can't hurt. It puts an experienced pitcher at number 5 and if Randy comes back he'll come out of the pen. Having Penny is better than having Joe Martinez right now. Martinez is not started material yet, as his 7+ ERA shows.

If Penny does horrible it cost us nothing, and we can just shut him down. It's a lateral move that with the right circumstances can be a big gain for us.
