Yeah and I hope it's only gonna be optional in the majors and they don't force players to wear them in a few years.

Its all about safety. They should make them where a beanie w/a propellor if it means better protection from concussions.

That is the same thing alot of major leaguers said when batting helmets where introduce.
I think they got over it and I think we are pretty use to them now.

            Why?
Do you also want football players to go back to leather helmets?

Re: MLB's new helmets need a little bit of work

I saw a picture of a proposed football helmet that looks bigger and goofier then these batting helmets. I don't like the look of it and can understand those protesting on a cosmetic level but i'd still wear em for safety.

If they can reduce the size of the helmet a bit without lessening its effectiveness I think it'll be accepted more.

EDIT: The double flap model looks even worse IMO. Sorry for the huge size

Thats a stupid looking thing, it just needs a little altering and make it look less like a space helmet. Keith Hernandez was talking about he would never wear something like that and Gary Cohen made a good point saying thats how everyone reacted when helmets were first introduced.

They interviewed David Wright about the helmet and he said if its for his safety he'll wear it, so it looks like he's really scared about getting hit in the head again. So far the players to wear it are Ryan Dempster and David Wright.

Hmm.. just saw a brief clip of the Mets game today and it looks like he switched back to the older model..

                  Could be mistaken though

Don't blame him, helmet looked heavy on his head plus his teammates were calling him a bobble head in last nights game.

Carlos Guillen wore it for one at bat today in the Tigers game as well . He went back to the old helmet the very next ab though.

Just saw Shane Victorino with it in tonights SF/Phils game. Looks ridiculous, sorry.

                        Batting helmets fit, these don't.

As a kid I thought bike helmets were dumb and no one needed them. Now, if I ride around for exercise or whatnot I can't imagine riding without a helmet. I guess the protection from concussion/death is much greater than being "cool" to me now.

Obviously safety is more important then style, But they look horrible, I wouldn't wear one, there's probably a million in one chance of gettin hit in the head and hurt, and I'd rather not look like a martian when I went to the plate.

They only look horrible because they are different. Once they are incorporated into our subconscious, they won't look weird. As I said before, I don't care about looks. I care about safety. As long as they don't interfere w/players ability to perform, wear them.
