Homeruns overated? Triples and stolen bases underated?
Does anyone think the Homeruns are overated? The media gets the idea that everyone thinks their so hard to hit that players are all on steroids. But I think the hardest hit in baseball to get is the triple play or the inside the park homerun. Why doesn't anyone pay attention to those or stolen bases anymore?Tags: None -

I think he meant triple.....“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: Homeruns overated? Triples and stolen bases underated?
The thing with a home run compared to a triple is that a home run is an automatic run for the team, and the next three betters could all strike out and it wouldn't matter. If you hit a triple though, you are still depending on the batters behind you to knock you in. They could all strike out and your triple means nothing.
Now as far of inside the park home runs, the only time people get those is if something weird happens, or if there is an error of some sort, so that doesn't really measure skill.
Stolen bases however, I think they may be a bit underrated. Now they still aren't guaranteed runs like HRs, but when you can get a lead off guy to get a singe, then steal 2nd, you have a very good chance to score.
But it all comes down to scoring runs, and home runs are the best way to do so out of what you mentioned.
But the thing that I do think are very overrated are pointless home runs. If your team is losing by 5 runs in the ninth inning, and you hit a solo shot, it doesn't matter. Home runs in the clutch are what really mean something. There could be a guy who hits 100 home runs in a season, yet he strikes out every time with runners in scoring position. I would much rather have a guy who only had 15 home runs, but they were all meaningful.Comment
