Because the only ones who care are Yankee fans.

    Anyways, Jeter just tied Gehrig.

I care, just not enough to make a thread. Say what you will about Jeter's defense but the guy has been a rock solid baseball player throughout his career and has been a valuable bat to the Yankees. It looked like age was getting to him in '06/'07 but he's clearly rebounded nicely this year.

Congrats to one of the great Yankees and an even greater guy by all accounts.

        Congrats Jeter.

Used to be a big Jeter fan when I was a kid, so it's sort of nice to see him do this.

It's crazy to me. As much as the guy is overhyped, he really is one of the greatest Yankees to play the game and I feel fortunate to have watched him play since 1995.

As a fan of the Yankees, all you get is this and that about all of the greats, greats I never had the chance to watch or instead saw retire early and miss their ring (Donny). I can say with great confidence that I saw Derek Jeter play baseball.

Figures Balfour would end up walking him.

At least Posada hit the 3 run shot. Posada might be one of the most underrated Yankees of all time. He's probably a top 15 all-time Yankee.

I sorta care, just not a whole lot.

Congrats to Jeter for tying tonight! He'll very likely get over 3,000, which will be a fitting achievement for such a great Yankee. Overhyped? Maybe (and definitely as a fielder), but he's been rock solid from day one, has been a class act, and works his *** off.

                Very good stuff.

Jeter's a great player, but I think he was definitely overhyped earlier in his career in comparison to the other SS's who played at the time, mainly ARod. Countless times I remember hearing how much better than ARod he was.
As for him becoming the Yankees hits leader, frankly I don't care. I know he'll get over 3,000 and be in Cooperstown, but to me I just don't care he is the Yankees hits leader.

He plays the game the way it should be played, and I can't think of a better man to tie Gehrig's hit record.

I was thinking about this last night. At first I thought you were off your rocker but the more I think about it the more you're right. The Yankees have had 3 absolutely great catchers in their history with Yogi, Munson and now Posada. It's a shame that some of the pitchers are rebelling against the way Posada calls games nowadays.

I've always thought Posada would make a good manager after his career if he chooses to do so.

                        Bill Dickey also.

It amazes me how some of the fans take issue with his game calling abilities and would rather have Cervelli or Molina catching. They had that last year and look where it got them. when youput up a .900 OPS from the catcher spot, it doesn't really matter if he is a subpar defensive catcher. It's not like he's Piazza-level bad behind the plate either.

Elston Howard was another very good catcher, The Yankees have had a history of outstanding catchers, Bill Dickey, Elston Howard, Yogi Berra, Thurman Munson, and Jorge Posada.

Jeter's talked about and heralded so much that an accomplishment such as last nite isn't valued as it should - it's more of an expection of his usual & consistent performance.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.
