Re: Which is worse? Being a Cubs fan, or a Pirates fan?
I would say the annual false hope, numerous times falling short of expectations, end of year collapses, and the need to blame failures on Goats and overanxious fans would be worse than perpetually knowing you'll be in the cellar. At least the Pirates know they're destined to fail each year.
Based on my team's history, I know a little bit about this...lol -

Re: Which is worse? Being a Cubs fan, or a Pirates fan?
From my perspective as a cubs fan I have to say Pirates. I haven't been alive 100 years so honestly that really doesn't have much of an effect on me. At least we've had some competetive teams recently, even if there are no WS rings around.Comment

Cubs fan, they never won anything. How could you feel bad for a fan from Pittsburgh, they have the steelers and penguins also the pirates where awesome back in the day.Comment

Re: Which is worse? Being a Cubs fan, or a Pirates fan?
Of course, I'm a Pirates fan, but I still think this is a no brainer - the Pirates. I'd rather start the season knowing I had a chance to win and fall short then start the season without a chance. It makes even the most diehard baseball fans, such as myself, disinterested in the game.
Put it this way, I used to attend many Pirate games a year and even had a 21 game ticket plan for a few years (that's the most I could really do while working long hours about 30 min north of PNC Park). Last year I went to 1 game because I received free tickets and this year I have not attended any and watched maybe 5 full games on TV - I've watched parts of games, but almost never a full game. What's worse is the Pirates have slowly reduced my interest in Major League baseball in general.Comment

I think this would've gone to Philly had we not won it last year.
I'd have to say Cubbies.
They're the darlings of Chicago, and always seem to let their fan base down.
Whereas the Pirates have been losing for 17 years now, and they're forgotten by much of the Pittsburgh fanbase...it's Steelers and Penguins country.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
