ASB Question for those who've edited pitchers...

I messed around with a pitcher's velocity (Franklyn German DET) and raised it from a C+ to A... figuring he throws in the mid-90's and that would give me his realistic velocity. Only thing is, when I play with the guy he rarely tops 88-89 mph... wtf? Every once in a while he'll hit 92-94 on the gun but that doesn't seem right. I even tried A+ and didn't notice any difference.

Also, does anyone know what the difference between a +4-Seam fastball and just a normal 4-seam fastball is?

This is a tough one. The velocities during the game vary quite a bit. My best guess is that the effectiveness rating and accuracy rating play a part in the velocity. Also, i think the velocity depends on if German's best pitch is the fastball. If he has a 4-seam fastball, try the +4-seam fastball. I'm not quite sure of its effect but it might add velocity.

I noticed that the effectiveness rating effects how fast a pitch looks to a batter. I realized this after I changed Andy Pettitte's Accuracy rating from a C to an A+ and I left his velocity alone. His fastball and cutter looked faster than it did before and his effectiveness rating was raised from i believe a C- to a B+. Try it out.

I think that's a good point about the effectiveness. Lots of people are fond of saying that it's not so much how hard you throw, but where you throw.

Bernie, that's a good idea.. thank you. So that means that the effectiveness rating is actually based off of the the velocity/accuracy ratings? I never knew that if that's true, I always had figured effectiveness was a stand alone attribute like health.

my thinking is this. the gun is horrible. I have seen fastballs blow me away that said they were only 88, 89 etc. others that have been 93, 94 didn't look much different--if not a little slower.
the radar gun is ridiculously inconsistent. one of my pitcher's "slow curves" went 58. yeah, right. it went no slower than his change that wen 75ish.
don't sweat it. it's all about location and setting up pitches, anyway.
