Re: WTF has Happened to Ben Grieve?

I can still understand his walking off. I mean, if he's been strugling, he ain't feeling it. He just wants to get out of there, and try to work it out on his own. I can totally understand that even though nothing will change by argueing with the umpire...it can help the club moral I suppose. But still....

If I were in a slump, and I knew that I can either walk off....or argue, get nothing changed, and THEN walk off with the same result....I'll just walk off.....

I also think that Lou made a big mistake coming to TB...he NEEDS to win, and he ain't gunna do that at TB. So...I think a lot of his yelling and fuss was mostly that he isn't winning....not that Grieve walked off.

I can understand what Ben Grieve was saying here, and I can also understand how it could be misunderstood. I think he was saying "it doesn't matter" to the fact that if he argued to the umpire, it wouldn't make a difference. I don't think Ben was saying that it doesn't matter to strike out at the end of the game.

I disagree,Lou is trying to put some fire into the team and i think the fact that he didn't argue shows he doesn't care..Managers are always arguing calls but they know the outcome won't be different...

lol at this thread. No disrespect man, but Ben Grieve has always sucked.

he's a terrible player. IMO the WORST Rookie of the Year in the 90's. Absolutely terrible.

Gotta disagree. Lou isn't gonna change that team in one year, but they needed a guy like him in the clubhouse. He doesn't take 50% effort. He wants his players to care all the time.

The Mariners were garbage before Piniella took over. He made that team a contender. Tampa Bay may not have many stars in their roster, but Pinellia is a smart man. He knows that the Yanks are gettin old. The Red Sox still can't figure it out and the Blue Jays are still very young (but can be the best team in a few years). He knows he can make the Rays that team as well.

They need to wake up and start playing harder. With more emotion. More care. More "matter". Ben Grieve took that Mo pitch like nothing. 2 strikes, game on the line, you do anything to hit that ball. Pinella wants these guys to realize that every game should be a game 7.

I think he's the perfect man for the job. Just like Pena is the perfect man for the Royals.
