If anybody fails, they are stupid. All they have to do is quit taking them for a few weeks and pass the test. So I predict less than 1% come back positive.

            Matrix,

Unfortunately we will have to hear about it, cause of things Like Heel said and people will believe what they want to believe.

I really don't think many are taking them. And if I had to guess on the ones who are taking them, it would be the less known guys trying to get something extra to be stars like Bonds and Sosa. Guys in AAA who feel like they need to be a little better to make it.

I don't know there are a lot that do it even good ones, at my high school some of the best players took steroids, and I know they weren't on that level yet but some will do it even if they make it, Corey Patterson went to my high school but he DID NOT use them, but other players did

but heelfan is right they might stop and then do them again, but some people will fail anyway

At least they are testing for them now.

the article I read said that they didn't say yet what happens when they get caught, The NFL drug tests and guys rarely get caught, so if they are using them they are pretty good at getting around the system

Re: Players agree to steriod tests.

I don't get the obsession about sterioids. I mean, yes, they're bad and all, but it's not like the players are necessarily evil for using them.

The only think that probably kept players like Ruth and Ted Williams from using them was availability. I hate to speak badly about some of the all-time greats, but Williams would have done anything to get an edge, and the Babe was into just about any chemical substance he could find....

Re: Players agree to steriod tests.

First of all, nothing has been agreed upon as far as testing goes. The players union merely agreed to a form of testing.
Even if testing is put into effect, it will have next to no impact. I don't know if any of you are aware of this, but according to the players' proposal, if the results come back with less than 5 % of the players testing positive in both 2003 and 2004, the testing will be done away with completely. Don't think for a second that most of the players currently using won't find a way to beat the tests. So, if steroid testing does become a reality, we will be seeing it for 2 years, and 2 years only.
Personally, I feel that there is a large percentage of players who use steroids right now. I highly doubt it is limited to players with limited talent looking for an edge, either. Look at someone like Bret Boone. Just 3 years ago, he was sent down to the minors because he couldn't produce, and all of a sudden he has this huge power spike last year, and is now a borderline star player. I am suspicious of guys like him, but I also suspect a lot of the big power guys.
Frankly, I would rather they not even test for steroids, unless it is going to be done right. The downside of testing is that if a bunch of star players are exposed as being roid users, it is going to severely tarnish the game. Fans and media will look at the game's great players a lot differently, and all of their accomplishments will be taken with a grain of salt.
I feel that something needs to be done while it can, but we should all be careful what we wish for.

                            Sportsor Death,

The thing about Bret Boone is that for periods of time in his career he hit really well, then would fall into horrendous slumps, finally he couldn't pull himself out of them. Last year he may have put it all together for a full year, every time a guy improves doesn't mean he is taking something. It's kind of sad that every player who has a big year is suspect.

No, it isn't right to suspect any player that has a big year. However, when said player had never shown much ability to hit with power before his big outburst, it opens them up to speculation. Let's face it : Boone is a little guy. When I see someone that small suddenly start hitting opposite field bombs with regularity, I have the right to be a tad suspicious. I have suspicions about plenty of other players, but Boone is the guy that really jumps out at me.
