So should fans vote for the All-Star Game?

What do you think? It seems like every year a good player is being cheated because so many fans vote on reputation instead of how the players actually play.

The fact that Troy Glaus (.262 BA, 14 HRs, 44 RBIs), Eric Chavez (.259 BA, 16 HRs, 46 RBIs), and Robin Ventura (.256 BA, 9 HRs, and 36 RBIs) are leading in votes over Hank Blalock (.331 BA, 12 HRs, 46 RBIs) is ridiculous.

This is nothing compared to many of the other positions. Vernon Wells who has a .307 BA and is leading AL outfielders in both home runs and RBIs is currently 9th for AL outfielders in votes. Raul Mondesi who has a .268 BA, 6 less homers and over 30 less RBIs than Vernon Wells is above him in voting.

Jose Vidro has a 40 point higher batting average, the same amount of home runs, and 2 more RBIs than 2nd base vote leader Marcus Giles.

Scott Rolen (.293 BA, 15 HRs, 56 RBIs) and Vinny Castilla (.254 BA, 12 HRs, 35 RBIs) are beating Mike Lowell (.288 BA, 25 HRs, 68 RBIs) in votes. He's even leading the National League in Home Runs.

Rafeal Furcal who has a 46 point less batting average, half the RBIs, and 3 less stolen bases is beating Edgar Renteria for the starting shortstop position.

And possible worst of all, Albert Pujols who is batting close to .400 and leading all NL outfielders in RBIs may not even start.

i think to make the team MLB uses 1/3 the fans 1/3 the players voting and 1/3 the coaches...

          There's no solution really...

I mean the fans don't vote on MVP's and CY Young and Rookie of the Year winners and there's ALWAYS controversy over who won them and why.

I think that in order to vote you must pass a GENERAL IQ test relating to baseball, and be sworn to the idea that being an all-star is about more than what a player has done the first three months of the season...case in point...it being rediculous that the WORLD SERIES FRIGGIN MVP Troy Glaus be beaten out by Hank Blaylock simply because he has a higher .AVG over the first three months of the present season...

I partially agree.. I think the all-star voting SHOULD comprise of more than just the past three months, however, it's the 2003 All-Star Game.. it's all the more reason for people to keep their game at the highest level possible, but now they act like they don't have to, just get a few excellent years, then ride out the career off of that. With some exceptions, mind you. Which is why I admire Barry Bonds, the guy works harder and gets better every year.

Sosa has a crapload of votes. He has missed tons of games and got caught with a corked bat, and overall isn't having an all star season. There really is no cure for how to do it...but something should change
