    The Umpire Strikes Back!!!!

Has anybody seen that ump Angel Hernandez? This guy is a JOKE. His ego is way out of control. He was calling the balls and strikes in the Atl-Ari game last night. And what a shock, his strike zone was all over the place. This guy could call back to back to back pitches in the same location strike-ball-strike. He does this inside, outside, up and down in the zone. Every time I see this happening during a game I don't even have to ask who it is, I know it's him.

Most of the time he ends up running 2 or 3 guys because they question where his freakin brain is. Cox and Mazone both got the gate last night. He also blows very simple calls on the basepaths as well. This has been going on for years with this guy and I don't see why they can't fire him. Don't they say the best officials are the ones you don't notice? This guy sticks out like a damn sore thumb.

So, I'm wondering if any of you have seen this guys handy work?

    Re: The Umpire Strikes Back!!!!

Some of the worst umpiring I've ever seen has taken place in the Atl-Ari series... that guy last night was a jackass, and the guy the night before was almost as bad.

Sure, Maddux and Glavine get a generous strike zone.... but when both teams are complaining about the calls, it's obviously because the ump is doing something wrong. Smoltz (game 1) threw a ball right down the middle on an 0-2 count that was called a ball... everyone from ESPN to TBS said it was a strike, but he called it a ball. That strike cost Smoltz the save.

Then to throw Cox out of the game last night when he didn't even hear what he said... it's obvious this Hernandez guy has a chip on his shoulder and is less than impartial. Umps have no room for grudges or anything like that... he shouldn't be behind the plate if that's his level of professionalism.

Which baseball umpires don't have huge egos? These guys think they are the reason why fans go to games, they constantly bait players and managers, and then throw them out for practically no reason. I remember a couple weeks ago, Alex Rodriguez was called out at first base on a very close play. A-Rod got up after sliding into first, then stumbled and fell into the 1st base umpire whom he grabbed onto to keep his balance. The umpire immediately ejected him from the game. These guys have some serious chips on their shoulders.

I went to a camp this year and a former catcher know a coach told us a story about Hernandez being the umpire in one of his Mexico summer league games and he says he is the biggest jacka$$ of all when it comes to umpires. I have to agree that Hernandez is horrible and just like the coach in camp says he tries to get guys to argue so he can toss them.

The first game I ever saw that guy do was between the D-backs and the Giants about 5 years ago. I think he ran Kent in the first inning. Ever since, when I see something really stupid go down, 9 of 10 times he's in the middle of it. I don't see how MLB continues to let this guy work. I guess this guy has to cost a team a playoff spot before they do anything about it. Can you imagine this guy blowing a call late in the season? Umpires have begun to think they are bigger than the game, but this guy really takes the cake for me. I can't wait for the day I'm at a game he's calling so I can tear into this guy. I'll be willing to bet he'll try to run me from the park.

Yeah, so do the math, 1997 to 2002 is roughly around 5 years isn't it. I skipped a lot of school, but basic math hasn't escaped me yet. Dude, that was a real reach on some smack talk. The funny part is, you dropped the freakin ball on it...doh!!!

It surprised me that Hernandez wasn't the umpire involved in that Gagne debacle the other week. That's got to be one of the stupidest calls I've seen in a while.

Hernandez is not very good, but overall the umpires have been better and less confrontational since they handed in their resignations and the league accepted them. Before That, guys like Rocky Roe and Joe West were out of control they really thought people cared if they were there.

                          matrix,

I agree he has an attitude and doesn't call a very good game, when I remember an umpire it is usually cause he isn't very good. especially one that hasn't been around that long.

Hey wasn't Hernandez the umpire that threw out Steve Mongo McMichaels out at the Cubs game for arguing about the call during the 7th inning strech?
