Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Yes from me.
Selig oversaw baseball through the 1994 strike, the introduction of the wild card, interleague play, and the merging of the National and American Leagues under the Office of the Commissioner. He was instrumental in organizing the World Baseball Classic in 2006. Selig also introduced revenue sharing. He is credited for the financial turnaround of baseball during his tenure with a 400 percent increase in the revenue of MLB and annual record breaking attendance.Boston Red Sox

Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He's a yea for me as well. Also one thing I didn't see listed was that he kept a Labor Peace for 20 straight years after the 94 strike.
And I should change the question to does he deserve to be in as he just inducted.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He does have a couple positive points, MLB does have the most stringent drug testing in all of North American sports, the replay system is generally a good idea, the massive TV deal wouldn't have been possible without him.
Still, as the only commissioner in MLB history to oversee a year without a world series and a franchise relocating as well as the Steroid Era are too many black marks on his resume. I'd have waited until after he dies to bestow this honor upon him but it is what it is.
Love the fact that Schuerholz is going in the Hall though.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Selig had a complicated tenure, he did some good for the league, and he did some bad, Leaders will never be perfect, and the steroid era, put him in a very uncomfortable, difficult spot.
But he handled it so poorly, with his shameless witch hunts, and slow leaking of names, and your the commissioner, and you have no idea, steroids are running rampant under your watch? I find that hard to believe, and to me that ultimately defines his legacy.
Should Selig be a nomination for the hall? Hell no.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Bud Selig and Tony LaRussa - two of the biggest enablers of players taking steroids - are in. Time to let them all in then.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I hate the idea of Selig going into the Hall and I esp. will hate it if he goes in before the Big Stein, but its inevitable Bud goes in at some point. And since Selig is the second worst commish in MLB history behind Bowie Kuhn, and Kuhn is in the HoF, its only a matter of time before Buds enshrined. If either of those two buffoons hadnt served in the commisioner role as long as they did, they wouldnt even sniff Cooperstown. And while I havent been a Yankee fan since Bucky Dent was traded away, I recognise Steinbrenner will go in, even if its just for his purse strings. I also think the way Seinfeld portrayed him softened him up for me and made him more palatable. Loved it when Frank Costanza yelled at Steinbrenner "You dont know what the hell youre doing!" in regards to the Jay Buhner-Ken Phelps trade.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23
