Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

heres the ballot for this years HALL:

The ballot: Rich Aurilia, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Aaron Boone, Tony Clark, Roger Clemens, Carlos Delgado, Jermaine Dye, Darin Erstad, Cliff Floyd, Nomar Garciaparra, Brian Giles, Tom Gordon, Eddie Guardado, Randy Johnson, Jeff Kent, Edgar Martinez, Pedro Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Mike Mussina, Troy Percival, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Curt Schilling, Jason Schmidt, Gary Sheffield, Lee Smith, John Smoltz, Sammy Sosa, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker.

Smoltz Pedro and Randy Johnson are slam dunks.

I think all the steroid suspected guys like Bagwell and Piazza get shut out.

Will Raines get closer or fall further back?

In any event i think the 6 guys i just named will be the top six on the ballot.

Biggio should get in I believe he was only 2 votes short last year.

          My 10:

Biggio, Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, Johnson, Pedro, Mussina, Piazza, Sheffield, Smoltz

I would consider Edgar, Delgado, Kent, Raines, Schilling, and Trammell also but my 10 spots are all used up. Tough call with Edgar vs Mussina vs Kent vs Raines vs Trammell vs Delgado vs Schilling all being deserving of that last spot. Same with Everyday Eddie Guardado, lol.

Stop the madness and get Bonds and Clemens in already so they stop taking up voting space. Juice or no juice, 2 of the best to ever play the game.

Nomar, McGriff, Sosa, Smith, and Walker not quite at that level, imho.

Sheffield over McGriff,Sosa,McGwire,Delgado is only thing I'd argue with on your ballot of the steroid users Sheffield numbers were the most tame, McGriff + Delgado put up nearly the same numbers with no steroids.

Voting is released Tuesday, IIRC I have to believe Baggio goes in this year.
Also, Randy Johnson, first ballot. I hope John Smoltz goes but I won't hold my breath. Beyond that, who knows. Also Also, Dan Quisenberry belongs, though he hasn't been on the ballot since his first year of eligibility (1996).

Prediction: Unit, Pedro, Biggio in. Smoltz misses, goes in next year with Griffey.

Where does Piazza fall this year? I'm really curious to see how close he gets…amazing to me that the greatest hitting catcher of all time, without any ties to PED's, can't get more support.

Lots of voters suspect Piazza took PEDs. Fair or not, that's why he's not already in the Hall. He'll get in eventually, but not yet.

Unit, Pedro, Smoltz with Biggio just whiffing again.

There's too much campaigning for Smoltz for him not to get in this year. I also expect to see Raines' numbers to go up significantly but again not enough to make it.

Biggio was 2 votes short last year. He's in.

Smoltz might get in, I suppose, but it'd be bizarre (even by BBWAA standards) for Smoltz to pick up 75% of the vote while Schilling lingers around 30%.

I'm really hoping that McGriff really picks up steam. Crime Dog would already be in, IMO, without the 1994 strike. He'd be over 500 HR's and being clean would have sailed in…

I also would love to see Tim Raines get there…in fact, I'd prefer him over Biggio.

McGriff got only 11.7% of the vote last year. Veterans Committee is his only hope.

Don't underestimate the power of sportswriters and grudges. Something tells me Schilling wasn't exactly the most liked man by the BBWAA writers.

True enough. Is it that difficult to consider Schilling to be both a total jerk and a worthy Hall of Famer? Sad thing is that posters on this forum put a lot more thought into this than a large chunk of the BBWAA.
