what could have been thread
hey guysim starting up a "What could have been thread" for pro baseball. the first what could have been is Kerry Wood and more importantly the entire chicago cubs pitching rotation. When i saw Kerry Wood strike out those 20 batters i thought that i would be witnessing one of the greatest pitchers to ever play the game. Wood had probably one of the best fastballs i have ever seen and his control was remarkable. i would like to know some one who did not think wood was going to have 250 wins when his career was over

Re: what could have been thread
This is easy.
The 2009 Cleveland Indians, featuring CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Victor Martinez, Travis Hafner *had he not gotten hurt/gotten off the Steroids*, Grady Sizemore, Jim Thome and Manny Ramirez!Too Old To Game Club
Urban Meyer is lol. -

What could have been....
The trio of Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter and Kelvim Escobar could've been one of the most dominant front three starters in the AL for years to come. Too many injuries and growing pains of getting it all together killed that.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Barry Bonds...
If he wasn't blackballed by collusion I think we'd be looking at 800+ HRs easily and another member of the 2000 RBI Club and the 3000 Hit Club"They call me the freak, cause i'm a freak of nature" - Randy Moss

If only repeatedly posting the greatness of Barry Bonds and MLB's collusion against him over and over and over and over again in the baseball forum were against the new TOS.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: what could have been thread
Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds all get busted for steriods and thrown out of the game, 1998 never happens, Bud Selig resigns saying "I didn't do a good enough job", baseball falls into a death spiral never to recover, and the brand new WBL (World Baseball League) becomes the top baseball league in North America during the summer of 2003.Comment

Since when would talking about multiple-record holding future Hall of Famer free agent baseball players be against the TOS?"They call me the freak, cause i'm a freak of nature" - Randy Moss

Re: what could have been thread
If Ken Griffey Jr. never gets traded to the Reds and never gets so injury prone.
If A-Rod resigns with the M's after the 2000 season, we never could have afforded Ichiro.
If David Ortiz never hits that game winning homer against the Yanks in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS.
If the White Sox choose not to throw the 1919 World Series.
If Babe Ruth was never traded.
If Branch Rickey never takes a chance on a kid named Jackie Robinson.
If Buckner never boots that ball.
The list could go on and on...Last edited by WazzuRC; 10-27-2009, 11:43 PM.Comment

I'll bite...if the Mets never traded Tom Seaver for Doug Flynn, Pat Zachry, Steve Henderson and Dan Norman.....I might not still be waiting for the first no hitter in Mets history.

If the 94 strike doesn't occur, do the Expos survive in Montreal.
If Alou doesn't throw a fit, if Gonzalez doesn't botched the double play, if Dusty....I'll stop know, cause it's to frustrating.Comment

Re: what could have been thread
If Brian Taylor was any place but the night that he got in that fight. We may be talking about one of the best pitchers of our generation. He was extremely hyped, and almost a sure thing.
If Don Mattingly hadn't gotten injured, where would he be among Yankee greats, and all time 1b for that matter.Comment
