If the teams stay the way they are today, it'll be St. Louis. If the Cubs had gotten Lowell it would have been the Cubs, but that's not possible now. The only shot the Cubs have at winning the central is if they trade Alfonsuco, Clement, Estes, Sosa, get a 3rd baseman, a second baseman, a right fielder, 2 more starters, and a reliable closer.

Re: Who will win NL Central?
Cards can and probably will win the Central again.. however, they best do some trades to pick up some pitching if they wanna do anything in the playoffs.
They need at least one good starter to pick up in a trade..
I'm sure they can do this with Drew and Vina somehow.... neither of these guys will be with the club next year most likely.. so the Cards should try to trade both before the trade deadline this year to pickup some pitching for the playoffs imo.

Re: Who will win NL Central?
I think it's going to be St. Louis again. The only way the Astros will win it is if Oswalt becomes 100% healthy the rest of the year, Wade Miller gets out of his funk, and they trade for three other starters.
The Astros' bullpen is good, but their starters can't get through the 5th inning half the time.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

I hope Cincy. Even Milwaukee got 2 votes, and ChiCubs got nada." I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Add in the Astros inconsistent offense and you have correctly diagnosed the Houston ball club. Historically the Astros have been a second half team who seems to hit the off switch just in time for the playoffs.Comment

Re: Who will win NL Central?
That is exactly right. Historically, for the past few seasons anyway, both the Astros and the Cardinals have been second half teams. The Cubs are obviously a first half team. It looks like we might have another 2001 on our hands which means a race to the finish for the Cards and Stros. It should be fun.
Edit: I failed to mention that unlike 2001, the WC will not come out of the Central. That should add quite a bit more to the race.Comment
