Imagine this in the NFL. Let's take the New York Football Giants. Imagine how good they would be if this offseason they could sign from the smaller markets James Harrison and Troy Palomalu from the Steelers, Ray Lewis from the Ravens, Drew Brees from New Orleans, Chris Johnson from the Tennessee Titans, Andre Johnson from Houston, then a couple of offensive lineman.
Of course, like the Yankees, no one could sign away the Giants' top players because they could pay them, too.
That's basically what the Yankees do. A-rod, Teixeira, Damon, Sabbathia...many of the best players the Yankees have are not Yankees. They're hired guns that they simply outbid the Red Sox and a couple other teams for. A-Rod should be a Mariner for life. He would be in the NFL. Sabbathia is an Indian, Damon a Royal, and Teixeira a Ranger, etc, etc, etc.
So who's next? Will Joe Mauer be a Yankee or a Red Sock one day? Ooooo, I can't wait to find out.
When you spend more than six times what the lesser teams do on salary, what have you won exactly?
The farce of major leadgue baseball continues. But enjoy Yankee fans. You'll have similar opportunities the next 20 years, too.
