Re: Rookie Of The Year
I have no idea how VORP is calculated, but Happ led all rookies in the statistic by a country mile. Perhaps not the most compelling argument, but I thought he'd merit more consideration.Comment

Re: Rookie Of The Year
I know what it stands for, but I don't understand how it's calculated and what the implications of those calculations are. Happ led all rookies in VORP by a huge margin, but looking at the raw numbers, I don't know why it's so.Comment

Re: Rookie Of The Year
The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense.

Re: Rookie Of The Year
I'd agree if he didn't have a great year, but his numbers stack up with Beckham's pretty nicely. Beckham has the edge in RBI but Nolan had him beat in homers, average, and OBP as far as basic stats go.Comment

So you know, I really like Reimold. I think he is going to be a fantastic solid player. Something about his approach just translates well to me."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Rookie Of The Year
He needs to move to DH because his fielding is atrocious. Not sure if he'll be a perennial 30 HR guy but 20-25 seems reasonableComment

Re: Rookie Of The Year
for the AL...not sure....but I'll go with the O's Nolan Reimold
for the NL, I am going with Andrew McCutchen..
I'll say this, it's about time MLB had SEPARATE ROY awards--for pitchers AND hitters. It's not fair for either side to get squeezed for the other category.
Back to McCutchen
.286
12 homers
54 RBIs
9 triples
26 doubles
22 SB's/5 CS
only grounded into 3 DP's
10 assists
only 2 errors
Bring it home Andrew!!!
For 2017...

Re: Rookie Of The Year
I want Hanson to win for the NL b/c I watched every start and he was dominanting going down the stretch for a team that needed those wins.
However, Coghlan will win...voters like everyday players compared to starters.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Rookie Of The Year
Funny story. I was at a late season Brewers game and they were giving out signs that advocated Casey McGehee for ROTY. Casey freaking McGehee. I don't know who in the organization thought the guy had a Popsicle's chance in hell at winning that award, but they need to be fired.
(The other side of said sign advocated Prince Fielder for MVP. Seriously, the person who thought those guys had any chance at all should be doubly fired.)
In the NL, i'll take Tommy Hanson.
