I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Re: What is wrong with baseball players??
Certain players excell at the derby because of their natural swing... i.e., griffey, bonds... but it really adversely effects those players with line-drive cuts... i.e, bagwell, bboone... although I would love to see ichiro do it-- I think he'd win, he hits hrs at will during batting practice... I think they should let whomever wants to compete compete, but forcing people is wrong.Comment

What's wrong with baseball players?
How about the one's that get all offended because the other team celebrates a great play, a winning hit, a big strikeout, etc.
Today, Albert Pujols was beaned in the back on the first pitch he saw because last night he hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the 11th and 'lingered a little too long' at the plate.
Hey Bruce Bochy! How about fixing that sorry-*** excuse of a baseball team you've got instead of crying that you got beat...again!!!
And the same goes for Dusty Baker. God forbid you hit a walk-off homer and be happy about it against the Cubs. The Reds did it and that resulted in a bean-ball war and bench clearing brawl. Then the White Sox did it, and Dusty cried to the media about how he got 'dissed' by Jerry Manuel.
Cry me a friggin' river you worthless, no-talent, so-called manager!!!
Why don't you try to win sometime with a team that's not loaded with 30-something vets that need more than a cheerleader to push 'em to the next level.Comment

Re: What is wrong with baseball players??
move the All Star game to the end of the year play it in hawaii or some nice weathered place like football. Then the players will participate in all the festvities. I think its dumb to do it in the middle of a season in a game where one specific guy could count more than in any other game.Comment

Exactly. I recall Wade Boggs and Tony Gwynn discussing this and they pretty much said the same thing you did. Without bashing other players, they said that they can hit a batting practice fastball right over the plate, where ever they want. I remember the question being posed "would you be able to win a HR derby then?". Both avoided the answer, but re-stated that they hit HR's during BP when they want. However, due to the type of hitters they are, usually you'll see them spray the ball to all fields during BP.Comment

Re: What is wrong with baseball players??
Hey BigRed, I am with you on the Pujols thing. Look when two teams step onto the baseball diamond, it becomes a war(me v. you). My best against your best, I am out there to win, if u are not then shame on you. I have no prob with someone "lingering" on a game winning "bomb". Take this quote from (.190) hitting Gary Bennett - "Last night he hit the hell out of it and watched it and watched it and watched it,'' Bennett said. "Look, nice going. Just get around the bases. It irritated a lot of us.'' It irratated a lot of us. Grow up...This came from someone who will never see the kind of numbers tht Albert will put up and whose team will never see the postseason in the near future(23 games back at the break). Quit crying...
And if anyone saw the game today, after Albert got hit, Bennett immediatly got in Albert's face and starting talking smack. I hope Albert but his $1.90 hitting *** in its place....
