Look people, the Cardinals will not make it to the playoffs. I mean, they're talking about trading JD Drew for Corey Lidle.. with that said they have some of the worst pitching in either league. Look for the surprising Astros (4.00 team era) to win the NL Central.

I have never heard anyone of credibility say that the Cardinals are thinking of trading J.D. Drew for Cory Lidle.

Now, I have heard that the Cards have interest in Lidle. And it is assumed that Drew might be moved to acquire pitching. And I have read (on this board) where people have put the two together to assume that it's a Drew for Lidle trade.

    Hardly.

    Just doesn't add up.

IF the Cards trade Drew to TOR, you can guarantee there's more to the package than just Lidle.

Anyway, with that said. My picks are:

    AL West: Mariners
    AL Central: Royals
    AL East: Yankees
    AL Wildcard: Red Sox

    NL West: Giants
    NL Central: Astros
    NL East: Braves
    NL Wildcard: Marlins

However, I have to note that this is the way I see it right now (on July 18). Check back on July 31, and we'll talk again.

MarWinner, are u serious? Diamondbacks win the NL WEST??? Do u know what it takes to win?
Schilling is back and he got rocked by the Giants. Randy Johnson will never be his oldself, he gets rocked in the minor leagues. Face it, the Babybacks will not be able to dominate the always HOT Giants.
Unless Arizona wins 20 in a row, and the Giants lose 42 in a row, Arizona won't win the NL West. Maybe the wildcard, buy never the West.

Actually, if the Giants lost 42 straight, and 'Zona won 20 straight...Zona would have a 26 game lead.

Seriously, I do think the D'Backs can and will win the NL West. They're only 5 games back, just a couple months ago they weren't even close to .500. Schilling went 7IP last night and didn't give up one ER. Plus Webb and Batista both have been great in the starting rotation. Right there's three starting pitchers that always put you in a position to win.

I agree, Johnson is bit of a question mark, but I feel he will be able to bounce back, and if he does, that makes their rotation even better(assuming they leave Batista in the rotation and don't put him back in the pen). Mantei and Valverde in the pen are also very good.

Plus, their offense is very good. Luis Gonzalez is having another Luis Gonzalez season. Kata and Cintron have been pleasant surprises. Finley is having a good season. Shea Hillenbrand is proving that he can put up good numbers for a WHOLE season. I don't see any reason why the Diamondbacks can make up 5 games and catch the Giants.

And if Randy comes back full strength, watch out, Johnson-Schilling-Webb...they could find themselves back in the Series come October...
