As a Tigers fan you can put anything down from the Randy Smith era (1996-2002).

Trading Travis Fryman to Arizona for Gabe Alvarez and Joe Randa
Trading Justin Thompson, Gabe Kapler and Frank Catalanotto to Texas for Juan Gonzalez
Trading Todd Jones to Minnesota for Mark Redman
Trading Luis Gonzalez to Arizona for Karim Garcia
Drafting Matt Anderson #1 in 1997 (ahead of Lance Berkman, Jayson Werth, Troy Glaus, Vernon Wells, JD Drew, Michael Cuddyer, and Jon Garland)
    My Teams:
    NFL - Washington Redskins
    MLB - Detroit Tigers
    NBA - Detroit Pistons
    NHL - Washington Capitals
    NCAA - Virginia Cavaliers
    NCAA - Arkansas Razorbacks
    NCAA - Michigan St Spartans

Hmm I was gonna say that you'd choose the Gary Carter trade. Sure it wasn't the final nail in the coffin by any stretch but it was the first of Bronfman's "i'm too cheap now" moves that doomed the Expos to become a small market club.

A full list of Expos-related mistakes and regrets would be its own 20-page thread.

Re: One move you wished "your team" never made

I'll restrict this to the last year.

Trading Cliff Lee without making the other team take on Travis Hafner's anchor of a contract. Then they could've held onto Victor Martinez. Lee was never going to re-sign with the Indians, but it would've taken a ridiculous contract offer from another team for Vic to leave the Tribe. Dumping Hafner's contract would've allowed the Tribe to re-sign Victor. They could've moved him to first full time when (if?) Carlos Santana was ready.

Keeping Eric Wedge as manager after yet another slow April start. Maybe a change in the manager would've given the Tribe a spark and kept them in contention. It worked for the Rockies.

That'd be killing two birds with one stone for you. The Sosa trade may have never happened, because Mike Fontenot was drafted with the compensatory pick the O's got. Who knows?

Who knows...I think keeping Moose might've attracted other high profile FA's to come and maybe the last few years would've been different, not to mention he was the ace of the staff and one of the faces of the franchise for 9 freaking years.

If they do the same thing to Wieters I'm going to go insane.

Selling that Babe character to fund theater debts comes to mind as a pretty bothersome bit of Red Sox history.

Didn't we trade away Smoltz to Atlanta for Doyle Alexander (or some ok pitcher) for a playoff run? Wish we could have had that one back.

I remember Matt Anderson, he was supposed to be awesome.

Obviously drafting Matt Bush. Well, if they didn't want to deal with a Boras client, they could've gone with Justin Verlander instead...

Trading Johan Santana to the Mets for Carlos Gomez, Philip Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey. What a waste, should have atleast gotten 1 decent player back...

Especially considering what the Orioles got for Bedard, you'd think the Twins could've gotten more.

But then again, the Orioles were dealing with Bill Bavasi.

Different situation. The Orioles didn't have to trade Bedard when they did, thus giving the Orioles a bit of leverage in negotiating the trade. Everyone knew the Twins had to trade Santana and that they did not want to open the 2008 season with him on the roster, thus losing leverage and having to settle not for the best package they could have got but for the best package left available.

The Blue Jays were headed into a similar situation with Roy Halladay. While it remains to be seen just how the trade will work out for Toronto you can bet if it were Ricciardi making the deal the Jays would not have got back what they did.

So many to choose from during the Bavasi era but these two stand out:

                                1. Trading Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Kam Mickolio and Tony Butler for Erik Bedard. Worst trade in franchise history.

                                2. Drafting Brandon Morrow instead of local favorite Tim Lincecum.
