Nathan Likely Done for the Year

Sorry Twins fans, that's a huge blow. Nathan was diagnosed with a torn UCL. Will wait for second opinion from Dr. Andrews. TJ Surgery likely.

Replacement for 2010? Maybe Francisco Liriano?

Eh, I don't think it's that huge of a blow.

        Closers are pretty easily replaceable.

I used to think the same thing but after trotting out Manny Acosta, Bob Wickman, Tyler Yates, Jorge Sosa, Chris Reitsma, Dan Kolb, Kyle Farnsworth, etc. over the years I have changed my opinion.

Hell even Soriano and Gonzalez have been shaky over the last two.

In 2007, the Cleveland Indians had the best record in the MLB with Joe Blowsaveski as their Closer.

As long as you have a solid bullpen leading up to Nathan, Nathan is replaceable.

It doesn't matter who pitches in the 9th.

Haha, I remember him. However, you had Betancourt & Perez who were lights out...but couldn't close.

If Atlanta had even a decent closer during their 14-year run who knows many championships we would've had. I still wish Smoltz would've stayed in the bullpen after his TJ surgery.

In 2007, Borowski was dependable and the Tribe won. In 2008, he fell apart and so did the rest of the bullpen.

There are plenty of guys who have had great stuff (the name Paul Shuey comes to mind) who were terrific setup guys, but were terrible as closers because they didn't have the mindset for the job.

I guess we'll see if Nathan is "replaceable" this season...

If it wasn't Chicago's division to lose before, it sure as hell is now.

Jon Rauch, Matt Guerrier, Jesse Crain, and Pat Neshek make out the in-house candidates to replace Nathan if he has to have surgery.

Borowski may have been dependable, but he was still awful.

In my opinion and this is just my opinion, but I used to believe that statement. Until I saw how many games the Giants lose in the 9th inning when Nenn was done. To me it is not easy closing out games, so this is a big lose in my opinion.
