HELP!!!!

Ok, I need some help convincing my friends that baseball is a real sport, and its tough to play. They always knock it for stupid reasons (not a contact sport, etc), and for its lack of excitement (which if you watched the Braves/Mets NLCS a few years back, then youd know), and crap....

I always clown them, but they dont seem to understand.

Anyone got suggestions or stats or somethin to help me out????

first off Baseball is the best sport ever. Second off tell them to step into the box against someone throwing a little ball 80 miles per hour making it look like a tiny pill and hitting it with a round bat. Or tell them to feel the pressure of batting your team is counting on you bases loaded down by 1 and you have a 0-2 count....... In that moment alone you have to have the toughest mental outlook of any person who play sports that I know. Baseball is the best sport because it is......... it's just to hard to describe what makes this game the most amazing game ever you just have to go out and play and you will figure out what it is all about.

okay, seriously though, baseball is a mind game, between the pitcher and the hitter, and you have to play it cool, and know when to go for the homer, or when to steal second

you have to be smart to be good at baseball
and you have to run a lot in practice even if you don't in games

hey I played football in high school, but our baseball coach made the baseball team run more than the football and basketball team, I think even more than the soccer team and we had the best baseball and soccer team in the district almost every year

IMO its both. You don't hit a baseball using your head. You may use your mind to help but your always gonna hit the ball using athletic abilites.

Also, watch someone like Pokey Reese or Derek Jeter play the infield and then tell me that baseball isn't an athletic sport.

Not to mention the diving catches that get made in the outfield...it's really hard to appreciate how BIG an outfield is until you've been standing there yourself.

It is said that hitting a baseball thrown by a major league pitcher is the hardest thing to do in professional sports. It can be coming to the plate at over 90mph while moving 2 or 3 feet in any direction. If that doesn't make what hitters do amazing, then I don't know what to tell your friends.

Baseball has a history that other sports lack, in my opinion. Guys like Ruth, Mantle, Bonds... they are larger than life and bigger than the sport they play. Even with character like that, though, any team can beat any other team on any given night. You never know what amazing play (Furcal throwing out a runner at home while falling down in the bottom of the 9th ) will be the play that turns a game around.

It is a game of perfect dimensions, green fields, and amazing players.

I should know some of my buddies throw about 88-90mph and I can't even hardly fould tip it, every now and then I get a good line drive that might go over an infielders head, but I only make contact like 1 out of every 40 pitches, it's so hard

and yes I totally agree you have to be athletic to be really good at baseball

I meant to say baseball is more of a mind game, and you have to have more focus that other sports. Of course you need freakin athletic ability.

Actually, I meant that as a response to baseball haters who say that there's no athletic ability required, not to your "mind game" post.

I'm not sure if there is more need to think in baseball as opposed to a sport like football, but the pace of the game allows for more of the "mental processes" to be seen. Football requires a tremendous amount of thinking, but it happens so fast, it tends to be lost in the physicality of the game.

You take time to think in football you're screwed. The play is over by the time you figure out what just happened. You have to know down and distance and your assignment, when the ball is snapped it's all instinct.

Ya seriously, 3 seconds max, unless your lucky enough to have a good o-line......well for QB's anyway..
