SAN DIEGO, Ca. -- San Diego Padres First Baseman Adrian Gonzalez is expected to miss the entire 2010 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, according to a source familiar with the injury.
Gonzalez injured the knee rounding first base during the 4th inning of Wednesday's exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals. Gonzalez left the game under his own power and was replaced by pinch-runner Drew Cumberland.
"When the swelling subsides we will have a better picture of the severity of the injury and whether surgery will be required,'' said Padres General Manager Jed Hoyer.
"I'm obviously disappointed having worked so hard this offseason,'' Adrian said in a statement released by the team. "This is a setback, but I'll be back. It's in God's hands now. I want to thank the fans, my teammates and everyone in the Padres family for all of their good thoughts."
