Well if you think about it, the erratic (and frustrating to watch) Moss is arbitration eligible and the Giants had no plans to sign him anyway. Ainsworth is a tough one to give up but you have to give up something to get something. Hannaman is a great prospect but Sabean has a great history of getting "lucky" (Joe Fontenot, Jason Grilli) with his traded prospects. So really, they only gave up Ainsworth and Hannaman for Ponson. Still a high price, but not as high as it is at first glance.

As an Orioles fan, I am unhappy that they traded him but I am happy with what they got back. Moss and Ainsworth in a much better and cheaper package than J.D. Drew and the other crap people wee talking about.

Not to mention the fact that Moss who should still win 12 -13 games this year with a high ERA, will get a good amount of money in the offseason if his contract reaches arbitration. A lefty who wins 13 games will get his money. And from a Giants fan perspective, I don't think he deserves it. To all the O's fans...you are getting one hell of a pitcher in Kurt Ainsworth who was my favorite player, and a good prospect in Hannaman but good luck with Mossie.

The thing is, something might be seriously wrong with Rueter. He got hurt in the St. Louis series, pitched again and then before today's game, pulled himself out.

The Giants might have been willing to give up a little more because something is wrong.

i'm happy with the trade. i'm not sold on ponson, and he was asking for 10-11mil/year for 3 years?!?!? i heard that the O's final offer was 7mil/year. even that was too high.
