As far as I know, you can't pick someone off 2nd or 3rd using the catcher. You can throw them out when trying to steal, but not pick-off...it sure would be nice if we could!

While I had the game, I didn't have that much of a problem with Jorge Posada on my A's(I did a pre-draft before starting my franchise). i think reaction time is the key. You need to be ready to hit the 2nd base button the minute you hear, "He's breaking for 2nd!". I think he had a 50% success rate, but most of the ones that got through were because i just didn't react in time.

Exactly.. it also helps that when you got wheels on first, that you make a few tosses over to keep his lead short. There's some players that you're not going to throw out no matter WHAT you do. I'm guessing I'm throwing out about 40% of the runners. Which is about league average in real life. Or I believe.Comment

Re: Throwing Out At Second - Catcher to 2nd Base - Any success?
I can confirm it varies a lot depending on the rating of your catcher. If the CPU catcher has a fairly weak arm you can steal on him almost all the time - even without leading off which i stopped doing to make my percentages more realistic.
Just like in real life the trick is to pick a weak catcher and steal on him. I had a crunch game against the Twinkies recently and Pierzinski (i think) threw me out 4 out of 4 times.
one thing i noticed with throwing the CPU out you have to be careful with the early throw to second. If you hit the button before the catcher catches it and then the CPU batter hits the ball then the control switches to the fielder and he moves outward - this really hurt me recently.Comment

Re: Throwing Out At Second - Catcher to 2nd Base - Any success?
To make stealing more difficult (and more realistic IMO), I went in and edited every catcher's arm to at least 70 (with 99s for people like IRod). This way - stealing is not automatic (although fast guys like Lofton are rarely thrown out) - but - you don't have slugs stealing bases left and right on you.Comment

Now that's a good idea...but doesn't that raise their rating?Comment

Re: Throwing Out At Second - Catcher to 2nd Base - Any success?
i guess ill be fair and say about 20% of the time with A's catcher Ramon Hernandez. What I do is press triangle as hard as I can and HOLD it as soon as i hear "he's going to second!" or "he's breaking for 3rd!" The key is to get a low, hard throw that the guy at second gets below his knees. Plus, i have errors on many, so sometimes he throws too high or a little left. It aint supposed to be easy. I've only gotten Ichiro once.Comment
