    Highest paid set-up man ever??

With Ted Lilly coming back to the rotation, Sweet Lou has decided to move Carlos Zambrano ( $18 mill a year ) to the pen as a set up man. I have never wanted a baseball season to end so quickly after it started.....

Is it possible to be out the chase for the Central in April..........the answer is yes!!

I'm guessing this will be a temporary move. Silva is bound to fall back to earth at some point.

Horrible decision. Zambrano may not be an ace any longer, but he's still a solid #2/3 starter. Moving him to the bullpen at his salary is an awful idea, especially when he's still at least the 3rd best starter on the team.

The Cubs are such a laughingstock as well as the Mets for being large market teams who are pathetic.

I mean between Sorianos and Big Z's contract think of the things they could do with that money.

Being a Brewer fan, I absolutley love it though!!!

Zito filled the same void a couple of years ago, but not in a specific relief role:

I think I'll just watch Cubs games this season with the Benny Hill theme playing in the background.

This is the first in a line of more than a few shakeups i forsee happening if the cubs cant turn it around in a hurry.

Our bullpen blows, and Zambrano seems to be struggling in his starts. Yes, 2 of his 4 starts have been "quality", but he's throwing far too many pitches. I DO feel bad for the man. He's given up 8 runs. The bullpen behind him has given up 6, and his offense has scored only 10.

That being said, i dont mind this decision for the immediate future. It allows him more opportunities to figure out how to miss bats or get grounders without having to waste an entire start on him. And it fills a short term gap in our bullpen.

I'm not giving up on the Cubbies yet. In fact, i'm encouraged at what they're willing to try and what the players are willing to do to turn things around. I just hope it works.

I don't know I see this one lasting too long though. I'm sure at least one of Gorzellany or Silva will return to their old self and Zambrano will be back in the rotation.

It's really too bad Guzman had to get injured.

Interestingly Zito never actually made a relief appearence after he was "moved" to the bullpen and was back in the rotation a few days later.

Lou is getting tired of contracts dictating who plays and where. I honestly wonder if he will last out the season or if he will quit/be fired before it's over.

Yeah, the Guzman injury is essentially the biggest factor affecting the team thus far...

that being said, one dude doesn't fix this bullpen.

and I am willing to say that moving Z to the pen is not even crazy, but perhaps shrewd and brave. Something has to be done, and tbh, I could think of no other solution, actually been kicking the idea around in my head for a bit....

If he brings the right mentality and the right stuff, and the right shoulder...he could be a great reliever and make tons of appearances.

My only worry is that he seems to be (if my memory serves) to be a better pitcher in inning 2-6 than the first...we'll see if that trend causes problems.
