Re: Would You....
I think it depends on the team's situation."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

This
I know in the Jays situation it's almost a blessing that Roy is gone. He was clearly the leader in the clubhouse but he was very regimented and set in his ways that the atmosphere in the locker room was said to be a bit tight at times. It's a lot looser right now and we got a couple great prospects in return while Roy who's been a class act all the way in Toronto will finally get his chance at a championship.
It's a win-win for both sides.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Would You....
Trading the team all-star for prospects happens every year in baseball, usually when a team is completely out of the race and it is more rational to trade the star to a potential playoff team and get prospects rather than forking a load of money to resign him.
If the Padres fall out of contention by the deadline, I expect to see a lot of talent coming to San Diego as Adrian Gonzalez has a similar contract like Teixera had in the Texas/Atlanta deal (club option for 2011)Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: Would You....
If you are trading a veteran star who is at the end of his contract and you are out of contention than by all means. If you are trading a veteran who has a few years on his contract and is productive and you are in contention(even if out) than no.
The problem with most can't miss prospects is that they usually miss, especially after being traded. Remember Jose Cruz Jr.?. The toast of Seattle coming in as a rookie in 1997, was supposed to be the next big star joining Griffey and Rodriguez...and then he was traded at the trade deadline to Toronto for Mike Timlin and Paul Spoljaric. Cruz never lived up to his hype and took til his third full season in Toronto to be half the player everyone thought he would be (for all of 5 seasons).
Would Ryan Howard be the star player he is today if he was dealt to the A's or Blue Jays as both clubs tried to acquire him back in the winter of 2004-05?, possibly or possibly not.Comment
