Phillies great Robin Roberts passes at 83

Hall of Famer Robin Roberts, the greatest right-hander in Phillies' history, died this morning in his Temple Terrace, Fla., home from natural causes, the Phillies announced Thursday morning.

I never saw him pitch obviously (nor did I ever see any highlights or anything), but I knew his name by his Hall of Fame status.

A couple of baseball deaths in a couple of days. R.I.P.

IIRC he was one of the stars of the "Whiz Kids" Philly team in the mid '50s. Obviously like you I never saw the man pitch but he was said to be a guy that could carry the load and was very effective throughout his career.

It's sad seeing all these legends pass on. One of my favorite things is to listen to interviews with the older generation guys. I doesn't get any better than listening to them tell stories about baseball in the 40s, 50s, & 60s. I could listen to that stuff for hours...

      RIP.
