    Kevin Appier and Angels Management

It was reported today that it looks like Kevin Appier will be returning to the pitching hungrey Royals, Appiers original team, after working out for the team over the weekend the Royals liked what they saw,
if you are the Angels management why, knowing how thin the starting pitcher market is, would you release a starter the day before the trading deadline, at least trade him and get SOMETHING for him,
the Angels bad play and worse descisions prove more and more that last year was a fluke.

Yeah, I didn't get the move to release him either. You know they could have gotten a quality role player, or at least somebody for him. If they traded him they would have still gotten rid of his fat paycheck, which is what I'm told is one of the main reasons they released him.

Do they still have to pay his contract even though they released him? I am pretty sure they do. They may get some kind of money break on it, and if so, that is why they released him instead of trading him.

Besides, no sane GM would take on any part of Appier's contract, which is what they would have had to do to acquire him. I am not sure what Kansas City will have to pay him, but it aint much. Probably the veteran minimum.

They probably attempted to trade him, full well knowing no team would eat any of his contract, and then just decided to cut their losses and release him. Any team that may have been interested in getting him was obviously smart enough to realize he would be released anyways.

This is good. Got to fend off those pesky White SOx and he can just pick up where Lima left off.

Meh...I personally think Appier is done. If that is all the Royals can do, then good for them for at least trying to get someone serviceable. I still say they should have got a bat.

Appier isn't going to provide much, but at the very least he should eat up some innings. That is about all they can hope to get from him anymore. I would be real surprised if he even plays next year.
