Guys who had so much potential but never realized it

So I hear Grady Sizemore's knees are giving him problems and he has to have surgery which may mean he's out for the entire year. This guy has to be the poster child for the player with TONS of potential but injuries and whatnot literally killed any chance for him to blossom.

Can you name other players who just never got to realize their potential due to injury and they never were the same again.

A great example for Blue Jays fans is that of Duane Ward. He was going to have at least a 5+ year stretch as the closer starting in '93 but then injuries claimed his career. I believe most of the injuries were arm and back related. He was never the same again and had to call it quits.

Steve Avery and Kevin Millwood for sure. In a weird way, Ken Griffey Jr and Mickey Mantle. Ellis Valentine with the 'Spos back in the 1970's. I'm sure there are many others, those are the ones that just popped into my head.

I think Josh Hamilton could've been better than he is if he hadn't had the drug problems.

        How so w/Kevin Millwood, SF?

Here's a couple I think of from the top of my head:

        Jarrod Saltalamachia

Marcus Giles made an all-star team for Atlanta before his run-in w/Mark Prior. Went all downhill after that.

After Millwood's breakthrough season in 1999 he developed arm trouble...nothing serious, but more of a dead arm which he pitched through in 2000 and he was never the same after that.

Andruw Jones. Never came close to what he could have been. He always had the fielding. If he would have consistently worked at his offense and work ethic (staying in shape), he could have been one of the great all time players.

Jose Cruz Jr.. Cruz never lived up to the hype surrounding him especially when he came to the big leagues in 1997 with the Mariners and was expected to be their next young stud along with Griffey and A-Rod and was traded to Toronto after 49 games for Mike Timlin.

Think Mark Prior would've been a beast, shoot, also Kerry Wood to.

Sean Burroughs. Considered a top 10 prospect for 3 straight years. Never had the power, but was already in AA in his second pro season as a 19 year old.

How can you even say Grady Sizemore? Up until last year he had played basically injury free including at one point having the longest consecutive games played streak in the 400s or 500s. Grady is more of just under performing then being bothered by injuries. Adam Miller was once the Indians top prospect but loads of injuries have side tracked his career also Kerry Wood.

Kind of hard to put Nevin here. He had three good years with the Padres from 1999-2001, then had a bad 2002 because of injuries, a good 2003 despite injuries, an okay 2004 by PETCO Park's standards, then tailed off.
