This may be old news, but I found the perfect WSB sliders

    Hey guys,

I don't post on here much, but I have been scouring the threads discussing WSB 2k3 sliders for the last couple of days. I got my copy of the game in early June, way after everyone else. After about two months, the game started to get really easy for me as I routinely jacked the ball out of the yard with my beloved Cubbies. I mean, even Paul Bako was hitting bombs and Shawn Estes was pitching like Tom Glavine in his prime. However, after reading some of the slider suggestions from some old threads and experimenting, here's what I came up with:

CPU Pitching 99--for some reason, there is a big difference between 99 and 100. On 100, it's almost impossible to hit the pitcher, even using timed hitting like I do. 99 is as fair as it gets. For example, I just got done playing a game against the Diamondbacks and Curt Schilling. Schilling struck out Sosa like 3 times, but he also gave up jacks to Mark Grudizelanek and Alex Gonzalez.

CPU Hitting--47 I was pitching with Kerry Wood, and he pitched a so-so game for the first time in my season, now 90 days old. He routinely was striking out between 10-15 hitters a game (ditto for Mark Prior). His stats using my sliders? 6IP, 3BB, 5ER, and 10 Hits. Pretty realistic for a Kerry Wood off day. However, the game before against the Giants, Mark Prior went 8 innings giving up only 4 hits, but striking out 8. Pretty damn realistic if you ask me.

CPU (Balls)--85....I finally got this slider right. The better players (Bonds, Berkman, et al.) will not swing at bad pitches. Heck, he hit a 91-MPH cut fastball from Prior that was two inches off the plate inside 459 ft!!! However, notorious strike out victims such as Raul Mondesi and Jose Cruz Jr. are suckers for low breaking balls using this slider. Combined with the CPU's hitting ability, I actually feel like I have to work the hitters. For example, when I pitch to Bonds, I'll throw him some fastballs 3 inches or so off the plate to see if he'll swing (he hardly ever did). Then maybe I'll come back with a curveball or slider.

CPU (Strikes)--47...For a long time, it got so frusturating b/c the computer would never let a pitch go unless it was a ball. I felt like i was playing Triple Play on my PC again. However, after reading this forum, I realized that I had this number jacked up in the 90's....at 47, you get a real randomness in pitch counts. Some free swingers will come out slugging while others will take their time.

CPU throws strikes 1---I think we all know this is the way to go on this one. No further explanation needed.

CPU stealing---47...47 seems like a decent number in these sliders. CPU will steal with their rabbits (Castillo, Durham, etc.) and won't with their plodders. Though this game has a flaw with its baserunning aspect, I have been able to throw out about 35% of my runners stealing with Paul Bako who has a decent arm at best.

Like I said, maybe this formula had already been figured out in a thread I have not viewed. But if you are still struggling to find a "perfect formula" for your game, try these out and let me know how you did.

Thanks I've been looking for some timed hitting sliders because I suck at cursor hitting. I can't wait to try these out.

I forgot the most important setting at all---you must set variable pitching on "medium." I think this is the key---pitchers will only miss their spots 30% of the time. When variable pitching is set on high, it causes too many pitches to be grooved. As a result, a lot of homeruns are hit when they should be routine pop-ups.

Do these sliders work with cursor-hitting too? Cuz I used to have this game and I was playing with the Yanks and I was 21-3 and Giambi had like 15 HRs already. Will these sliders regulate those numbers? Cuz if they do, I am going back to WSB 2K3.
