Carlos Marmol is crazy right now

26.1 innings pitched. 51 strikeouts. I am at a loss for words to describe how good he is at getting strikeouts.

Here is an example: If Marmol pitched 200 innings at the rate he is striking out people, he would have 387 strikeouts. Think about it.

It doesn't surprise me at all. The guy is straight filthy. Especially when he's got the slider working, which has been more often than not as of late.

      That's a pretty outlandish 17.43 K/9 he's sporting.

Since 2000 no reliever has finished over 15.00 according to fangraphs:

      2000: Byung-Yung Kim 14.36
      2001: Octvaio Dotel 13.71
      2002: Eric Gagne 12.46
      2003: Eric Gagne 14.98
      2004: Brad Lidge 14.93
      2005: Brad Lidge 13.12
      2006: Jose Valverde 12.59
      2007: Jonathan Papelbon 12.96
      2008: Grant Balfour 12.65
      2009: Jonathan Broxton 13.50

Now, don't know at what point during the middle of a season that any of these guys maybe had a 17.xx K/9, but 51 Ks in 26 IPs is redonkulous. Out of the 78 outs he's been a part of 51 or 66% have come via strikeout. That and he's only issue 15 walks, which is a far cry from where he was at last year.

What a year for pitchers this is turning out to be. Quite a lot of them are dominating the game.

He would also have around 114 walks, but you take the good with the bad. What's also crazy is the .340 BABIP he's allowed thus far. If that normalizes teams will really struggle to score on him.

Which Carlos will be the Cubs' lone All-Star?

I say both likely enter, but if Silva has gotten to 10 wins and still has 0 or a very minimal amount of losses (2-3) then I think he's a lock; which is just crazy lol...

Too bad he usually walks the first 2-3 guys before getting those Ks. He is nasty though, was disappointed I didn't get to see him yesterday at the Cubs game in Milwaukee. But Piniella being the genius he is decided to leave Bob Howry in for 2 innings...smh.
