MLB vs NPB world championship game?

    http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-b...0100619j2.html

Nippon Professional Baseball Commissioner Ryozo Kato will visit his major league counterpart Bud Selig next month to discuss a proposed club championship between the two sides, baseball sources said Friday.

The former ambassador to the United States is scheduled to meet with Selig when the 2010 All-Star Game is held at Angel Stadium on July 13.

Selig had been invited to the two-game NPB All-Star series in late July, but he has decided to attend the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction around that time.

When would you do it? how much interest would it have here? Would TV pick up on it with the NBA starting along with the existing basketball.

If they do this they would either have to start the MLB season earlier or cut back the schedule. I think the idea is neat but there's a point when a team is playing TOO much baseball in a single year.

Why do it? NPB is considered to be somewhere between Triple A and the Majors. A World Series caliber team should dominate even a good team from Japan.

People said the same kind of thing before the '72 Summit Series between Canada and USSR and the Commies damn near won the thing. So anything can happen. I think it's at least a worthwhile experiment.

I pretty sure people said the same thing at the first WBC. Like SPTO said anything can happen, I'm not saying a NPB team can beat a MLB team but I don't think a MLB team would dominate a NPB team. I think if they do go with this, it most likely happen in December.

Not really interested. As was said NPB is at a level between AAA and the MLB. Anything can happen in a short series though, but it won't prove who's the best team.
