It's too bad the Tigers were too thin to send him down. We did it for Porcello and Scherzer and it went pretty well, maybe all he needed was a week or two to wake back up.

Unlike Porcello and Scherzer, Boesch tanking in the majors isn't something that should come as a surprise given his poor minor league track record.

I'll have to research this but didn't he lead w/e league he was in 2 years ago with 28 homers? I remember from the telecasts that he had an injury last year though. He was a 3rd round pick, too, so it's not like he's a complete unknown.

It was just strange to see how he completely and utterly dominated the first half... then went to the exact opposite end of the spectrum and was simply dreadful the second half.

Edit: my mistake, it was last year in AA Erie that he hit 28 HRs with 93 RBI so I'm wrong about the injury I was thinking of.

                Re: Brennan Boesch

Look at some of the splits to see how remarkably different both Boesch and Ryan Raburn have been pre and post allstar break

                Boesch 1st half: .342 average 12 HR 49 RBI .990 OPS
                Raburn 2nd half: .314 average 12 HR 43 RBI .919 OPS

The BA isn't as close as the rest, but that's pretty similar, it's like they switched roles at the break.

                Boesch 2nd half: .166 average 2 HR 17 RBI .474 OPS
                Raburn 1st half: .208 average 2 HR 16 RBI .637 OPS

It's kinda spooky, and the dropoff from Boesch is alarming.

What this shows is the Tigers need to either keep Ordonez and Damon, be in the market for another OF'er in the offseason, or hope Casper Wells is ready to be an everyday player at the big league level.

I'm hoping for Carl Crawford, but we're the Tigers, not the yankees, so I'm not optimistic. I'd love to re-sign Ordonez, let Damon go, and sign Crawford.

Unfortunately Crawford is likely to be in the $9 to 12 million per year range which the Tigers are not likely to spend. Jeremy Bonderman said that he wouldn't be surprised if his start this past saturday was his last start at Comerica Park as a Tiger (unless of course he is willing to take a huge paycut) Even Ordonez would have to take a massive paycut to return (more likely since he will be 37 and coming off of an injury). You never know though, maybe Dombrowski will be given the greenlight to open the checkbook.

Probably more along the lines of 15 to 18, at least that was the consensus among Fangraphs readers.

I figure Crawford is going to fetch about a 5 years 70 million dollar deal or so.

Man, Boesch didn't just hit a rookie wall, he crashed head first without a helmet going 200mph into it.
Wonder if we'll hear his name again aside from being a bench player down the line.

If the Tigers don't go out and make some moves this offseason you'll hear it when they announce the opening day lineup next march.
