I was thinking about getting it for online play but i wanted to know if it was any good

It is a GREAT head-to-head online game, as it plays a very realistic game of baseball. However, the lack of a franchise mode, 10-pitcher/15 hitter roster limitation, no minor leagues, no box scores, limited stats, etc. make it a below-average one-player game. Like all baseball games, it has its issues, but on the field against a human opponent, it's as good as any baseball game I've ever played.
