    First Place Cubs

That has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? With the Astros and Tards both losing tonight, the Cubs jump from third to first in one day. The Astros' bullpen has to be really tired by now and Morris can't stay off the DL, so it looks like the Cubbies are in first for good.

First for good? I dont think so. Even with all the problems the Cardinals are having I still think they will win the division.

You know what makes this sweeter? The fact that the White Sox fans were talking so much ish when they were in first place. Problem is, they were in first place less than 24 hours and are on the way to another loss tonight against the lowly Rangers. --> --> -->

I've been a Cubs fan since 1989, and I can say this: there's only one baseball team in Chicago as far as I'm concerend. I could care less about the White Sox who play in a division the Devil Rays could win....honestly, who is going to shut down th Cubs pitching? Nobody. Hence, they win the division.

The Cubs have great pitching and that is what is keeping them in the playoff race. Prior, Wood, Clement and Zambrano are huge for the Cubs, but they are not always consistant. Wood and Clement can sometimes look flawless on the mound but while other times they get hit hard. Prior has looked good all year and Zambrano has been VERY hot since the all-star break.

But the Cubs dont have the consistancy that they need on offense and sometimes from the pitching. Sosa looks like he is carring the team on offense, he really needed someone like Patterson to help him but he got hurt. Aramis Ramirez and Loften were a good pick-up but I dont think that they will help the offense as much as they think. Loften is old and it's late in the season, his batting average is going down and his legs are getting tired. Aramis can be good but sometimes he chooses not to. He is a very streaky hitter but sometimes he strikes out to much.

I dont think that the Cubs are the best team in the NL Central, I think that goes to the Cardinals. But thanks to their great young pitching they have a chance to win the Central and go to the playoffs. They need Wood and Clement to be consistant in their rotation and they need good offensive production if they want any chance to make the playoffs. I dont think they will, I personaly dont think that the pitching and hitting will be on the same page when it comes to cruch time. If they do win the division though it will be beacause they have such an easy schedule for the stretch run while the Cards and the Astros beat up on each other for the last month. I dont think that the cubs will win the division but I wish them the best of luck and to all the fans here on the board I hope you guys get to play in October.
