2010 is showing more & more that a comprehensive overhaul is needed in dealing with umpires. Mike Port is clearly not up to the job. Sandy Alderson made huge strides in reining these guys in. Mike Port who took over for Alderson 5 years ago has let it fall back into the abyss. Lets go to the video tape.

WTF Balls & Strikes:

I'm not for replay on balls & strikes but, Gary Sederstrom either had to go to the restroom or catch a cab. A grading systems is needed. See we have a strike zone that is clearly defined in the rulebook. Call it as the book says to call it or we will get people who will! End of story....

To me, this would be similar to say in football where a guy catches a pass, its whistled incomplete though, but turns upfield and gets 20 more yards and scores. However, the defense heard the play whistled dead and saw the signal incomplete, so when reviewing and changing the outcome, the extra yards are negated due to the unknown.

It's more comparable to a player catching a ball at the 20 yard line without even going to the ground with nobody between him and the endzone and nobody within 10 yards and whistling the ball dead.

Honestly, Gardner can be as much at fault there if you are talking about him getting tossed. I virtually agree that if you turn around to yell at the ump like that, you should get tossed.

Also, holy crap how was Mike Estabrook not punished for that? That is totally irresponsible and he should've had been fined and suspended.

Could not argee more. Instant replay needs to be part of the game, but only in the playoff because it's 162 games: I like to believe there is a bad call balance throughout the lenth of the season.
