I take it back, McClendon is still an idiot

I'm referring to yesterday's game, when he pulled Mike Lincoln in the 9th inning. Okay Lloyd, is Lincoln your closer or not? Please, make up your mind. If he is your closer, use him as your closer. If not, use him in middle relief (i.e. don't bring guys like Mike Corey into games when you have a one run lead).

Pulling a guy in the 9th inning when he's supposed to be your closer is only going to cause the guy grief. Maybe you should show that you have a little faith in his ability to close. If you don't have that faith, you shouldn't be using him in the closer role in the first place.

If anything, you did show that Joe Beimel is not who you want to be using in that situation. He's a good long/middle relief guy, but he's not the guy you want to bring in to get the big out.

I completely agree, Lincoln is the best player in the bullpen situated for closing. He has the ability to strike out a player if thats needed to win the game. With that being said Lincoln left the game with two men on and one out yesterday. But the first guy got on via an error by Jose Hernandez at third and the second guy got a walk on a full count. Thats a tough way to take out a closer, espically to put Beimel who is 0 for 5 in save situations. Lincoln is definatly not John Smoltz but he can close out games for the last month of the season. McClendon needs to leave him in there and let him figure out how to get himself out of a jam(Even though yesterday wasn't that bad, 2 men on and up by 2 with an out, chances are most closers will convert that).

One of Mac's greatest faults is he seriously over-relies on the lefty/righty matchup idea.

I agree that Lincoln has the stuff to be a closer. His ERA sucks right now, but consider that twice now, Mac has pulled him the minute that he got into trouble and then the new pitcher gave up the hit that scored the runners (and then the runs go to Lincoln). He didn't put pull Mike "What's a Strike?" Williams when he was there, and Lincoln is a much better pitcher.

Isn't Duaner(sp?) Sanchez supposed to be the closer of the future? When he came up and finally was on time, he didn't look to impressive. He got a win but he got hit pretty hard when he went out there. I dont even know where he is now is he back in AAA? All this roster moves and the bullpen situation are making me crazy

I think Sanchez was sent back down when they called up Mike Gonzalez.

Mike Gonzalez now there's a pitcher. I'm glad the Pirates got him back from Boston. I have only heard good things about him. The only problem was he had some arm injuries, but now that he looks like he has recovered I want to see him some more out of the bullpen. He should be able to help the bullpen out for next year.
