Mike Gonzalez now there's a pitcher. I'm glad the Pirates got him back from Boston. I have only heard good things about him. The only problem was he had some arm injuries, but now that he looks like he has recovered I want to see him some more out of the bullpen. He should be able to help the bullpen out for next year.

I'm glad they got him back as well. He came in to get a big out today too.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: I take it back, McClendon is still an idiot
So what do you think of Benson? Should the Pirates keep him and his 6 million dollar salary? Last I heard was that Littlefield was begging people to take him off his hands. I guarentee that as soon as he's traded he turns it around. He has the ability and the stuff I just dont know why he looked so bad this year.Comment

Re: I take it back, McClendon is still an idiot
Well, he's not going anywhere now. He's on the 60-day DL with a misaligned scapula. That just sounds painful. My guess is he was doing something different because of his surgery and it screwed up his shoulder (scapula = shoulder blade).
Right now, I don't think he's worth the money. Of course, no one else probably thinks that either, so I think the Bucs are stuck with him whether they want to be or not.
Knowing their luck, he'll have a big year next year, but end up being traded because he'll be a free agent. Then it'll be Jason Schmidt, Part II.“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

Re: I take it back, McClendon is still an idiot
Aaahhhh Pitt, aren't you being a little hard on your boy McClendon?
Fact is, I think the two best potential closers on the team he hardly uses in that role are Salomon Torres (injured, I know) and Julian Tavarez.
I was PNC Park yesterday with two of my nephews. WOW! What a gorgeous park! I'm so glad I got to go. And the kids loved it. Best of all, the Bucs won! Looked pretty damn good too. Fogg K'd 7, Redman smoked a 2-run homer, Sanders and Jack Flash went deep. Lots of fun, guys!
Anyways, Mike Lincoln does have good stuff, no question. But, three of the last four times Mac left him in to finish he got beat. Sometimes that happens. But, if you keep letting him get pounded when he's in a funk, that'll kill his confidence too.
Lets face it: there are not many dominant young closers in baseball. Usually, they develop later in their careers or moved from being a starter (i.e. Eck and Smoltz). I know this comment will get lists of young closers a mile long. Gagne, Rivera, etc. Honestly, I think Salomon Torres could be one nasty closer in the 'Burgh!Comment

Re: I take it back, McClendon is still an idiot
I never really thought of Torres as a closer. I think he is better suited for the bullpen/spot starter kinda roll. He is a good pitcher but I think that Lincoln is probably best suited of the players the Pirates have to be a closer.
BTW did the Pirates bring anybody up yet to fill Simon's roster spot?Comment
