Yeah, I can't argue with Schmidt.

Though I think the vast majority of people would fail to realize how close Chipper is to Schmidt territory.
    Now, more than ever

They are for sure in the same category in my opinion.

I'm not a sabredude so I don't get caught up in the WAR whatever but that's a good article.
The #37 WAR ranking is a surprise, considering Chipper's durability issues since 2004.

In Chipper's case, I think you do.

Taking cursory glances at Triple Crown stats does alot of disservice to him, considering how close he is to Mike Schmidt/Eddie Matthews territory when taking sabermetrics (OPS+, WAR) into account.

That's something you wouldn't realize if you ignored his remarkable OBP.

Well that sucks, I was hoping I'd get to see Cox and Chipper later this month because of the retirements.

Chipper is also one if not the best switch hitter in MLB.

Well I meant it in a "Jeez, I've watched nearly 100% of this guy's career, I don't need extra stuff to tell me how ****in' special he is." way.

Either way....I don't know. I'm still at a loss for words.

Man I still remember when he basically was a completely average hitter who couldn't hit for any power right handed. It was big news actually as lefties would give him a lot of trouble, then he studied and worked on it and showed hardly any weakness.

That's what makes it suck worse. I've watched him ever since he came up as a rookie and now his career is possibly over. It's just weird. Makes me feel so old.

Yeah. Nearly 100% of his career meaning almost every individual game. I hardly know a Braves team without Chipper Jones. Barely remember Pendleton. Memories kick in more vividly in 1994 and 1995.

Amazing how the ACL starts his career and probably ends it.

I wonder what the difference in his career would've been had he not had the injury in the mid-90s.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Really though....sad way to end a great career. Surefire HOFer.

His played dropped off from his usual performance, but he still had an amazing eye. His bat speed was just slowing.

Even as a Philly Phan, I will be sad to see him go, and his departure gives the Braves ANOTHER rallying cry to win the pennant

I wonder what the difference would have been had he not gone and played LF (sacrificed for the team AGAIN) for two years in the early 2000s. He started racking up those knee/hamstring things after.
