Average player. He does his job and fills in where needed. He's had two decent seasons - 2006 and last year. He is a rally-killing double play waiting to happen. I get visibly upset whenever Gardy or any of the Star Trib hacks try to tell me he's the "team MVP". Sure he had a hot month last September when we needed him to. But now he's with Nick Punto in the "Gardy's pets luxury lounge" where terrible at bats, hustle, and "taking one for the team" are king.

I had to laugh the other day when ESPN was telling me the reason for the Twins recent slump was because Nick Punto was on the DL...

Franklin Gutierrez, not so much for his bat, but for his glove. The dude is the best defensive CF around, yet nobody recognizes him for it, because he makes everything look so damn easy. Statistically he IS the best defensive player over the last 2 seasons in baseball. And he leads the team in RBI's, which isn't saying much, because he only has 49 .

Sounds like typical ESPN quality analysis.

Their record since Punto originally went on the DL on July 30th, 17-9.

Oh, I didn't buy it...nothing like a utility IF who can't hit to put you into a tail spin.

On another note, is it possible that Miggy Cabrera is underrated? You really don't hear about this guy like the other big names. If he played in New York he'd probably have his own Dove commercial.

Zimmerman too, that's another one. Excellent player, and constantly getting better.

I still think the sample size is too small on rookies. I'm not about to go out and say that Buster Posey is the best overall player the Giants have had in three years.

And his defense needs a tremendous amount of work. I am so impressed by this young stud, but he has a lot to show on the other side of the ball to get my vote. Plus, I wouldn't say that he's underrated. He isn't flying under the radar by the media's standards and Hendry got rid of a couple of infielders in trades to keep him on the field.

Oh, and Hong-Chih Kuo could easily make this list as well.

Luke Gregorson, or Mike Adams, quite possibly the two best middle men in all of baseball yet no one talks about them.

Dan uggla, he's not a great defender however he does tend to make up for that with some great hustle but he's pretty much rewriting the record books for power 2nd basemen

Pretty sure Rogers Hornsby still owns those record books.

It doesn't matter if you look at power or average, there's Hornsby and there's everyone else.

Not arguing that, but were talking about underrated players and not many people are aware that uggla is the the only 2nd basemen with 25+ Hr in his first 5 seasons,he'll be the first 2nd basemen with 4 30+HR seasons when he hits his next HR this season
