Looks like the White Sox are going to make a push for Manny Ramirez

If he clears wavers in the NL. But I doubt any of the contending teams in the NL is going to want him. The White Sox looks like the first AL team competing for a playoff spot to be the first team to claim Manny. I think this will be a huge boost for the White Sox. I realize a lot of people have written them off BUT as proven in June with this team, all it takes is a good winning streak. And with the addition of Manny to boost, they would be in good position.

The White Sox will claim Manny Ramirez with the intention of acquiring him once he's placed on waivers by the Dodgers, reports Ken …

If this were a soap opera it would probably make for some great television. However, Manny has a full no-trade clause and the Dodgers already balked at an offer from the White Sox at the july 31st deadline so it will be interesting to see if the White Sox make a claim would Manny accept a trade to Chicago and Would the Dodgers be willing to take the bare minimum at this point to move Manny.

It's been said that the Dodgers have been going over scouting reports of White Sox minor leaguers so it doesn't look like the Dodgers are going to let the White Sox do a straight claim without getting something in return (a la last season when the Sox claimed Rios). So if the other NL teams pass all the Dodgers have to do is convince Manny he really wants to go to Chicago.

In the meantime Manny may not be headed to Chicago alone. The White Sox have supposedly put a claim on Trever Hoffman but still have to reach a deal with the Brewers.

Manny's career REALLY hit a downward spiral since LA. Granted, him playing in the NL was silly to begin with when he should just be a DH, but you have the PED's suspension, then the constant injuries (which shows how much he's aging), and now you have him getting ejected in one at bat the other night just showing how little he cares about the Dodgers. He's bad news right now. Makes more sense for him to be on the Sox than the Dodgers, I'll say that. If he doesn't work out the Sox don't have to do anything aside from not resign him.

Just kind of seems like to me that the Sox are throwing out a prayer, hoping that they'll trade for Manny at a time where he's got a chip on his shoulder and he'll come in and be elite and ridiculous like he was when LA traded for him, but I don't see it happening. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Chicago and then ends up on the DL for the rest of the season.

Reports say that he's flying out to Cleveland and be in the White Sox lineup TONIGHT!

So we'll get an immediate take to see if Kenny "The Riverboat Gambler" Williams move paid off.

So...what are the odds the Sox actually make the playoffs? It's either win the AL Central or nothing.

Tough to call. Joe Mauer seems to go into "God mode" every year past the All-Star break.

The Sox don't need hitting they need the pitching!

Manny will play his butt off only because he wants another contract but really, the Sox have little chance of getting into the playoffs.

The Sox have gotten some of the worst production in the league from the DH spot.

Well that's true still i'd be more worried about the pitching then the DH. Y'know what I mean?

Yeah, it's horrid. But not as bad as when the Twins were throwing Jason Tyner out there in the DH spot batting 9th.

This will obviously help the Sox, but I don't think it's enough. When (if) Morneau comes back (I really hope it's soon), we more than make up for what Chicago has added. Plus, Manny can't help their bullpen. It's like a parade of walking gas cans once you get to those guys.

I know what you mean, but an upgrade is an upgrade no matter where it comes from.

The upgrade from their DH cluster**** to Manny is very likely to be greater than the upgrade they would get from a reliever who throws a dozen innings.

That said, I don't know why didn't put in a waiver claim on Brian Fuentes and let him reach the Twins. He certainly could have helped them, and he was exactly what the Twins needed (a lefty killer).
