Re: I'm fed up with umpires

No one to blame on this one I suppose, but I'm watching the Padres and Reds game and the Reds are down by two, with two outs and a runner on second. A shot hit up the middle hits second base umpire C.B. Bucknor, killing the play and ruling a single, holding up the runner at third base only instead of scoring.

Now, if Baker had been ejected for his argument or if the Reds didn't eventually score that runner the next at-bat (thankfully they did), I would have of course been in fumes. But the stir that was caused afterward that got the umpires really visible on the field was once again another nuisance. Perhaps Bucknor shouldn't have been in the damn way.

I think that rule should be discretionary though. If they think that ball is going through and the runner is going to score (which he definitely was, guaranteed), they should let him. Think of it like fan interference, it's not automatic.

Hopefully this is a step in the right direction to not only toning down on the visibility of umps, but eventually implementing instant replay.
